A simple method of planet organiztion

I was trying to figure out how best to set up my planet's specializations between manufacturing, research and economy. And it occured to me that the choices are already built into the game. Planets with moons get a 10% bonus on their production, so they would naturally be the best for manufacturing. Planets with rings get a 10% bonus for research so those should become research planets. And ones with neither would be well suited as economy planets. Of course some exceptions have to made in the event of special tiles, but overall it's an effective way of setting up your empire's economy.

Hi!
Planets with rings get a 10% bonus for research

For me the main point for planet's specializiation are special tiles. The +10% production bonus is just too small to ignore a 300% research bonus tile on a moderate panet. However besides the manuf. and research capital I don't specialize planets much. One or two more factories or labs, that's all. Most big planets get 4+ factories, 4 research buildings and a RC center anyway.

You might be better off though putting those 4 Factories on a planet with a moon, and replacing them with Labs, if the planet has rings on it. A 10% bonus can amount to quite a bit if you stack buildings of the same type onto a planet. It doesn't matter with planets that have neither of course, but it does if those features exist. Provided of course there are no specials like you say.

Without factories how log will it take to fill all tiles on that big planet?

Regardless of planet size, my first order of business are three factories. If the PQ is higher than 10, four factories. Higher than 16, five factories and the Power Plant. Then I proceed to fill the planet up with whatever my empire needs/the planet provides. After the planet is full of buildings, I keep social focus on until all the buildings and tiles are upgraded and used. Then, if it's a non-productive world, I replace the factories with Stock Markets/Research Labs. My Political capitol is almost always chock-full of wonders and trade goods. I only build 6-7 ship-building planets. I'm fairly research-heavy.

The moons and rings are also eclipsed by the evil ethical choices. The moon and rings mean very little to me--what's more important is when I click on planet details and see what % bonus to production & research I get.

I don't think the bonus tiles affect whether a planet is a research or industry _WORLD_ that much. I mean sure--if you have 2x300% research tiles, that planet's going to produce lots of research; but what does that have to do with the rest of your tiles? OTOH if that causes you to build a tech capital or research coordination center, that affects your planetary bonuses--now THAT matters.
