GalCiv II and DA

I bought the Galactic CivII gold edition which includes the DA expansion. I am new to this type of game. I read a lot about it and was very curious. Anyhow, I started playing the DA expansion FIRST. I have it patched too. I am getting real used to it but there is a LOT to learn. My question is what, if anything, do I gain from switching chaptors and playing regular Galactic CivII?

Also, because DA introduces some new gameplay elements, did the DA expansion game update any of the game engine of the original Galactic Civ II game?

Nope, the original game is still as it was before. The option to still play it is largely for the campaign, or if for some reason you want to play without all the DA changes. There's not realy anything to be 'gained' playing GC2 vs DA, aside from the campaign.

ok. because GENERALLY I don't play campaigns in any games. I will stick with DA the . . . . which is highly addictive!! Expect a letter from mmy wife!

Now this is an interesting question. When I played GalCiv 1, I never played the campaign. I never even hit the campaign button.

I still only have Dread Lords but I have still not played the campaign option.

I'm someone who prefers open gameplay and not a fixed senerio.

Am I missing anything?

Am I missing anything?

Just the story and a few fancy movies ...

i've also heard the campaign in DA has a few 'irregular' campaigns where your goal isn't necessarily to win, but to do... something else. not having played the campaign in either game, i'm not really the best person to describe it. but this is what i've heard (well, read).
