The Lensman Series Mod Idea

I wasn't sure how many GCII players have read the Lensman series, but I've read some posts with references to the works. I just want to say that it is my all time favorite science fiction series. I would love nothing more than to see a project based on the books for GalCiv II.

I think the gameplay mechanics (especially the battle system) are perfectly suited to fit the theme (if you disregard the ether theory of course. )

If there's anyone interested in something like a total conversion mod please reply. If it helps, I can make 3d models to contribute if necessary. I think this would be a great way to promote the books and express our devotion to the stories.

I don't have any too specific ideas right now, but I'd be happy just to recreate the golden age "retro sci-fi" atmosphere that the Lensman series captured so well. I have all of the reprinted edition books in the main series, plus the Lensman trilogy that was written by David A. Kyle, so I would have a vast supply of source material for races, technology, planets, important events and characters. Who's with me?

If you think you might be interested but you've never heard of Lensman here's the wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lensman

I haven't read it myself. The early sci-fi style would make a fanstastic mod, at least the ship designs would be very cool. I would be interested in assisting.

Actually, I was thinking that a better idea might be for an original setting that makes use of earlier science fiction ideas. They could be derived from a variety of sources. That way more people may be able to add something. The original Star Trek, Lensman, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon and especially the material to come out of movies during the 50's and 60's, like Plan 9 From Outer Space

I would love to see some of the older designs in GalCiv. Ships that actually look like rockets (not that I'm opposed to those that don't). Ray guns with those coiled barrels and blade tips. Aliens that look like rejects from a Twilight Zone episode

Thinking back to all this golden age sci-fi stuff, I could almost imagine playing the game in black and white. Not that I would, I'm not that old school.
