Stuck in loop installing WindowBlinds 5.50.021

Hi

I have Stardock Central version 2.40.437 and trying to install WindowBlinds 5.50.21 onto Windows XP Pro SP2.

The install fails as the download gets stuck in a loop downloading the same few files over and over. The files flash past quick but one is called BLANK.bmp, another begins with Arrow.. and another begins with Trackbar... there are 4-5 other files as well.

Percentage complete just keeps on increasing 1500%, 1570% etc.

Tried on three different occasions with the same problem.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Many thanks

Someone will come along with more knowledge than I, but first it is best to post the Windowblinds info here ..Open WindowBlinds then system information You say this has happened several times....have you completely uninstalled everything before trying again?

umm.. as a general rule, If WB isn't installed you can't do that.

have you completely uninstalled everything before trying again?

try a complete uninstall of WB if it will let you, then reboot - then try again

if that doesn't work - move your downloaded skins somewhere safe and then try running The Zapper, reboot - try downloading/installing

are you downloading via normal download (regular browser > download), using a download manager, or using SDC?

Hi

I am trying to update via SDC. By install I should have said update to the latest rather than install.

WindowBlinds info reads:

WindowBlinds 5.1 System Information Report:

STATUS : WB+ SRV+ HLP+ UI+ TRAY+

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC.

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

You have one monitor in total.

(Dell 1702FP (Digital)) 1 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT

Wblind.dll 2006/10/09 10:24:20
Wblind64.dll 2006/10/09 11:51:37
Wbsrv.dll 2006/10/09 10:40:18
Wbconfig.exe 2006/10/10 16:39:13
Wbload.exe 2006/03/13 17:54:14
Wbhelp.dll 2004/09/18 16:37:07
Wbui.dll 2005/12/06 21:29:06
Tray.dll 2006/04/13 17:29:23

I can try uninstalling WindowBlinds but will need a bit of time to take a ghost image first in case I end up with no WindowBlinds. Is there any less drastic course of action available?

Thanks

Don't know - for the previous 3-4 builds I've had issues updating (SDC)

Before:

I have it set to autoarchive prior.
I unload WB and set to XP default, then hit update.
It autoarchives fine then just sits.
and sits.
and sits.
and sits.

When I cancel - first SDC gets an error, then cursorxp, then FF goes dead and disappears.

I log out, restart, same thing happens when I try again.

Now:

I unload - switch to XP default - archive - uninstall - reboot - reopen SDC and tell it to install - no problems.

ghost image first

you can use SDC to create an archive - then use SDC to restore that archive

Well that is a bit weird. I used SDC to create an Archive of WindowBlinds, then I thought I would try an install one more time before deinstalling and this time it worked. Quiet what creating an Archive did to help the install I do not know but at least I am up to date now without a major issue.

Thanks for all the replies and help.
