Bootskin for Vista

Hello,

Does anyone knows if there will be a version of Bootskin for Vista?

I installed it in Vista Premium, however, when applying a skin it kept giving me an error that the vidstub.sys is corrupt. I have to get my Vista disk and do a repair each time as Windows wouldn't load, not even in safe mode.

Not sure if it's the program that's not compatible with Vista, or the skins itself that may be to blame. In the meantime I had to uninstall it since I can't use it.

Thanks..............AR

Using Bootskin with Vista is a bad idea. Your system will go belly up, as you have found

Bootskin Vista is in development and is due out Spring 2007.

Thanks for the fast response. When I installed it, it didn't give me the incompatibility message I get under Vista, so I assumed that it would work.

I will await the new version.

Thanks much............Alex

I just got vista and was hoping to get some cool vista bootscreens instead of the no-image boring progress bar. When i installed it, i deleted the default ones, such as TOONboot and OS2/Warp. i installed some cool vista ones, but when i restarted my computer, it always came up with OS2/Warp even though it was deleted.

It didnt do anything to the comp, the bootscreen was just messed up.

Does anyone know a fix or a more exact date for release?

I'm fairly certain that Bootskin doesnt work on Vista.  It barely works with XP...

There is an option for a better-looking bootscreen built into Vista.  Try adding the No-Gui-Boot flag in the boot.ini file.  Apparently that unlocks a far better-looking bootscreen.  Google!

This works in XP also! You don't get the progress animation, but you can use any 640x480x16col image as a bootscreen.

Dude, its Feb 4 2008, i think you overshot your deadline, i am still looking forward to a decent vista bootscreen.
Also what does "enable Boot Video" in msconfig mean?

It is NOT recomended to use Bootskin on your Vista install. Bootskin has not been updated in a long time and was never made for Vista installs. It isn't even formally supported.

BootVista is still in developement since Stardock has had so many launches this year so far. Sorry for the wait.

Ok; so it's April '08 and boot skin still craps out Vista, when is the 'new version' coming out? Oh, by the way, anyone who's machine doesn't re-boot can start as 'Last known good configuration' and the machine will boot properly, then you can take this off!

Thanks

Here is the current word on BootVista. It went through Q&A to find some pretty extensive troubles. Not with the code mind you but how it works with Vista. BootVista will not be included in either version of Object Desktop 2008 for this reason. The developers are going to try again with it after the 2008 launch, and if they feel it can be fixed it will go back into Q&A. If the large problems that persist with the software remain then Stardock will not be releasing BootVista.

That is the news for the moment. Should things change we will let you know.
