#1 what is miniaturization and why do I want it?

#2 I planet gave me a ship in support of a war I was having with another race. Once of the ships won't let me move it ANYWHERE and it asks me if I am sure I want to move [wherever] because that will start a war with the race that just gave me the ship and then it adds that it will need to be put in autopilot. Whatever, point is, I can't get this ship. they gave me two and one I got to my home planet fine.

#3 In a current game, I find that my ships cannot travel very far. The Yor have no problems getting to my planet, but I can only come within nanometers of their prime target that, had I'd been able to reach them, would have ended the game some time ago. What is the research I'd need to get to travel further? Life Support??

1) Miniaturization increases the capacity of your hulls, allowing you to stick more stuff on your ships.

2) That's odd. Is the ship in question surrounded by ships of that race or something?

3) Yup, life support is what you need, and specifically you need to put life support modules on your ships.

1) if true, it seems rather odd that it is not more closely teched with the whole hull design thread.

2) the ship on one side has a mined astroid field and nothing on the other side of it.

3) then I'd have no room for any shields or weapons.

To #3, you can also build starbases at the edge of your current range in order to extend it.

1) Not really. Miniaturization makes all hulls have a little more space, while the hull techs give you access to much larger hull classes.

2) Then I don't understand why it won't let you move it to the open space. That's either a bug or there's something abotu the situation I'm not understanding.

3) Well, this is where miniaturization comes in handy, but in general life support modules are quite small. How far away is the target, anyway? Fighting long distance wars in the very early game is very, very difficult for this very reason.

Now why didn't I think to mention that? I do it all the time, too...

I had the same problem with moving a purchased alien fighter. It was on one side of three asteroid mines (the alien's) and out of range of my civilization. Plotting a course back to my space gave me "Are you sure you want to attack XXXX?" (the mining outpost). After several futile attempts to move it around the asteroids (kept giving me the out of range window) I gave up and sold it to another race.

Is the ship outside your influence range? If so, move to your sphere of influence in order to move around.

OK, here's the problem with not being able to move the ship you got. It's a bug... kindof... But not really... I should get a gold star for this one Kryo.

The ship that was gifted to you was out of your life support range, therefore it can only be moved toward your life support range. If you try to move it in any other direction, it gives you the message about being outside of your range.

The problem is that there are asteroid bases inbetween that ship and your life support territory. Therefore, in order to move toward your territory, it would have to move through the asteroids. Only it cannot do that because there are mining bases on them. Therefore it's only other option is to attack and destroy those bases so that it can move through the asteroids, that's why you're getting the war declaration "are you sure" message.

The way to solve this is to select the ship, and try to move it into your territory by going ALL THE WAY back to your territory and selecting a point there as the ships destination. In theory this *should* make the ship auto pilot a route around the asteroid bases and back to your life support range. If it doesn't, and you still get a message, then it's a bug. Kinda.

^^^ tried that and that's what prompts the message. But I think you are right because I was gifted two at the same time and one had a clear path to me, because it was on the OTHER side of the asteroid field, and arrived fine.

This results in the "Are you sure you want to attack XXXXX?" message, for me. It insists on trying to plow through the mining bases.

Yes, I had a similar issue.

When I first got the fighter, I moved back to my territory and told it to go to a world in my empire. Nothing worked. It should have easily moved around the asteroids, but it didn't. It must be a bug.

I like miniturization a lot. I'm playing Yor and I currently have 90+ miniturization and I'm not even through all the research yet.
