how does one get bought object desktop products back when reformatted

and subs has run out

OK reformatted hdd,i have the network edition of object desktop ,so by rights i should be able to re-download the lot with all updates uptill the date the subs expired (sometime this month the subs ran out) but all that shows as bought is "theme manager"...lol.. so anyone else had this issue and how is it sorted ,please help before i go ballistic

EDIT: unable to register product as there is only the update function in SDC and i don't wish to get 1 year of updates at this time

you don't get the lot unless you archived the lot and saved those to disk.

what you get is the last version of what your are entitled to. not sure how much time goes by before they won't send you a link/serial, but... go here and enter your email

or click tools, look up serial in SDC

Yeah that's the weird thing, i was expecting only what i was entitled to in SDC but only theme manager is showing up..lol.. so i'll give your link a shot otherwise i guess i'll have to make direct contact with sales and see if there's a balls up in the registration of the products

tried serial number first all i get is a popup asking to upgrade subs...lol..and cancelling the popup cancels the registration...lol.. no matter i'll get it sorted one way or another

ps: i was wondering what would happen if OD was deleted after subs expired and then attempt a re-install with SDC now i know...lmao...reason No1 why i usually prefer the disk i knew i should've bought it instead of just downloading thru SDC..D'oh

I would expect that once the subscription has expired so too has the access to the update process.

During the period of the subscription you had that time to download and install, and to archive any versions etc and back them up to disc to enable re-install after a format, etc.

If you purchase any software, whether it has on-ging updating or not, it's going to be the responsibility of the purchaser to save copies, etc to cover system loss/format, or, failing that resubscribe to allow further/future updates.

Stardock Central allows for archived product backup at each install/update, however if you reformatted without backup to alternate media I think you may be stuck...

I'll have to look at the product page to find out if it was only updates i paid for and not the software

EDIT: Nup the updates the way i read it are a bonus feature, time to butt heads with sales me thinks..lookout sales scorpy's on his way

You paid for the software...and the upgrades within the sub period.

However, with any form of product purchase....once purchased the vendor is not necessarily obliged to provide you another copy simply because you lost the first one. [via format]....

Now I gotta ask... what good will the updates do without the software?

exactly

I think there must be a prob with my product registration somewhere since theme manager shows up in SDC everything else is in the "shareware window" *rips what little hair is left out of head*

EDIT: jafo what's on the disk version of OD and if i get that will that give me a permanent version of OD and can install it all without SDC assuming the bank will give me a creit card without asking how i make money :angel smiley:

you would'nt bloody believe it i was really excited today too coz i got a new graphics card so i could run the full OD inc the windowfx thingy, since the onboard graphics was only 32mb and did'nt support hyper thingy and all that so it made running just wb a chore...lol... oh well i'm off to commit harikiri, bye, bye cruel world

Correct me if I'm wrong Jafo....

We buy the software which comes with updates for a year. If we renew our subscription we get another year of updates. If we do not renew at the end of any given subscription, the software (updated to that point) is ours and we can run that version until such time as we decide to further update (renew) or we 'lose' it.

From the Sales FAQ

Q: What happens when my subscription expires? Will the programs I’ve received still work?

A: Yes. When you purchase, you receive everything currently available on the Object Desktop Network as well as free updates for one year. Once your subscription has expired, you have the of renewing for additional years for $34.95. If you choose not to renew, you keep everything released prior to the subscription expiration.

Think of it like you would a magazine subscription. If you let your Newsweek subscription lapse, you can still read all the old issues (you just will not get any new ones).

If your magazine subscription runs out and you lose your back copies, they won't send you a replacement either.

It's up to us to hang on to our software.

edit: nevermind - I took too long

The latest version on disk. Yes, unless you lose the disk.
Yes you can install without SDC, that's how I first installed ODNT (still have my 2003 disk, but if I have to fall back to using it now it's gonna suck).

If your getting a current disk, then while it's being mailed you will have a current serial with which to download via SDC.. Start archiving and backing the archives up on disk (which you can use SDC to restore the archive after issues such as reformatting.)

You are correct Birchur & is why i did'nt believe jafo and is also the reason why i believe there is a prob with my redgo details thru SDC i should still be able to download the software period, updated to the subs expirey or not, mind you the disk is dirt cheap $15 US "(so long as you have had bought OD at the retail price) and has the latest updated ware tho it does not mean you get another years subs...lol..

edit: this post is in reply to the sales quote so i should be able to get it all back thru SDC or just get the disk (which i'm gunna get now)

I don't have a CD ver myself but it should be the same as any program/software....current full release at date of print/sale, and yours to keep [and install] till the cows come home.

The online purchase/install via SDC is the same....PROVIDED you backup to non-OS drive/CD/whatever so you have that copy to reinstall once you plan a reformat.

I have many proggies bought online....Bidefender 10, Drive Image 7 ...just to name two.

DI7 was an ISO dl...which meant you had to burn to CD anyway to install [but I have a secondary HD copy as well...just in case], Bitdefender is about 20meg....but it too is backed up to CD as well as on that other drive.

It's called managing/protecting your purchase.

With regards to my OD/SD stuff...apart from having no intention to lapse my subscription, I make sure SDC is backing up properly...and use Syncback to back those to a non-OS drive as well...

yeah it's decided gunna go get another creditcard and get OD on disk instead can you close this thread for me jafo

You are correct Birchur & is why i did'nt believe jafo

That denial is still kicking in.

You purchased software...the only copy you have was lost by reformat.

Your sub has expired.

If you are given access to a new copy of the 'old' software it won't be due to contractual obligation of original sale.
