Mega Events

I finished a couple of games during the weekends and I just say that the Mega Events doesnt seem to be very well done.

On one hand they are a joke, such as when the "Dread Lords" spawns without any ships or defence whatsoever and as such are wiped out within three turns. And on the other hand they are so powerful that the AI doesnt seem to be able to handle them.

Such as pirate swarms wiping out the AIs almost entire fleet or that disease that lowers production and morale of your population.

In my last game this disease hit well into the game where I was second to last in military rating and the most powerful, the Korath Clan, had maybe 3-4 times as much as I did. And then the disease hit and within 20 turns or so his fleet was down to HALF of mine while I was at the same level. I dunno why the AI couldnt handle it though, I just put all my resources into research and got the cure in 5 turns.

Also the spy thing, where 15 or so spies spawns in all empires, again seems like the AI cant handle. I will put everything I got in getting spies so I can get rid of those but even though some of the AI were well ahead of me they still had the problem with spies long after I was finished getting rid of them.

Anyway, it seems to me that these events havent been thoroughly tested so can we expect some balancing in a not so distant patch?

The mega-events are intended to completely change or destabilize the game--that's what makes them "mega".

Yup, it's also why the Dread Lord even needs some more punch.

I think you guys are missing the point. The issue is not that they "destabilize the game" but they rather destabilize the AI as it cant handle them because the AI empires are too slow reacting on them and sometimes doesnt seem to react at al.

In the example I stated above I was ranked fourth or fifth with the highest one, Korath Clan, was way, WAY ahead. Then the disease event occured. I researched it in 5-6 turns and after 20+ turns I was now ranked first because either the AI didnt research it or was way too slow doing it. Overall I lost almost nothing in the event but ALL the AI empires lost 50 % of their rating or more.

In the end I won an allied victory because all the AIs, except the humans, was at the brink of extinction and was gladly allying with me. I could have wiped them out since they hade almost no fleet left but that would take much longer.

So what needs to be looked into is how the AI reacts on them and in case of Dreadlords it need to be changed completely as they are wiped out almost immediately.

I had the same problem when the Dread Lords event happened. In the Dread Lords On Parade scenario, they're a threat because they're there from the beginning and have time to build up their scary ships before you can even begin to research transports to invade them with. Hell, I haven't tried that in Dark Avatar yet, but they're probably worse now with the new way weapons work - my old strategy of attacking them with hordes of small, all-weapons ships might not work anymore.

With the mega event, though, it was a letdown. The Dread Lords announced their presence when everyone's empire was well-developed...and their undefended planet was right next to my home system. WHACK! Problem solved. It didn't destablize the whole galaxy, it was an afterthought. The Dread Lords need to start with a fleet already in place, preferably a huge one if they're supposed to shake up everything. It'd be even better if the code also put Amalda close to the race with the weakest military rating, so the Dread Lords will have fertile ground to infest.
