Functional components removed when upgrading ship designs?

This is very annoying and counterintuitive. I don't like having to re-add common components when I'm only changing a weapon or engine and I've forgotten life support once or twice and didn't notice until I upgraded all my ships

Please tell me this will be changed

I guess you have let the corresponding option checked. Go in your options screen to uncheck it. It is in the interface tab, in the block dedicated to the ship designe.

Turn off the 'remove functional components on upgrade' option in the menu.
