It's Feb 5... where's WB5.5 at?

Just what the title asks... It's 10:25am on Feb 5 and there's no WB5.5 in sight on the Stardock Central downloads. What up with that yo?

Leaving for work in a couple hours. Looking forward to getting WB 5.5 tonight, after work.

I still say it's because of Global Warming......

I'm not sure if they gave a specific time on the 5th.
Might be a moot point until the 6th.

I don't know how usable WB5.5 will be in Vista. I've already tried installing/uninstalling it twice, and it always seems to tell me to reboot to start it the first time. Ok, did that, now why won't it work under Vista? I'm using a new Dell Dimension E520, with an ATI x1300Pro (256MB dedicated vram), and a fresh copy of Vista Home Premium (just bought). WindowBlinds 5.5 just refuses to run on Vista. PERIOD. WHERE is the promised version which is supposed to run under Vista RTM? EACH time I install it, it screws up my Video settings (I have to reinstall my video drivers after trying to run WB5.5), and STILL won't run. The first time I installed this product it was after a new, clean installation of Vista HP (32bit). I have STILL not been able to install this sucker in such a way that it will run properly. NOTE: I have bought Stardock products for years. I've NEVER had a problem with WindowBlinds before, under ANY Microsoft OS since Windows 98. Let's get this thing working, ok? WE pay $40 each year for working products. NONE Of my Stardock products (except Stardock Central) will work on Vista. So far, I've wasted about $40 this year for Object Desktop Network Edition. Maybe I won't pay Stardock anymore money after my current subscription expires. Unless they start supporting Vista REAL SOON...

And just HOW does it pay? Ive bought a new subscription for years. Always in the past, WB worked. Even beta versions. But the current beta of WB refuses to run under my purchased copy of Vista HOme Premium. Not only won't it run, but the installation won't even finish, since it AlWAYS tell me to reboot (no matter HOW MANY times I reboot). I've paid Stardock good money each year for working products. Stardock has been announcing that WB will be ready for Vista when Vista is released to the public. OK, this has happened. But WB is NOT ready for Vista. WHEN will it be ready? When Windows 7 is released to the General Public?

orthocross: I am sorry you are having problems with WB on Vista, but please remember that just because you have problems does not mean that everyone has problems.

Please also remember that it is still a prerelease.

We need more information about your problem.  Why do you have to reinstall your video drivers? (WB does not touch them).

Do you have a process called WBVista.exe running on your machine?  What files are in your WindowBlinds directory?

Hummm, I'm glad everyone loves me. Anyway, it's 8:15pm now and still no WB5.5 on SDC. So much for that Feb 5 release date posted in a SD article on Wincustomize depicting the release schedule for Vista geared apps.

Here's a copy/paste of the article I'm talking about.

Your GUI your way: WindowBlinds 5.5
Windows Vista's new look -- Aero, looks awesome. I like it a lot. But I also like to personalize my UI to look how I want it to look. Luckily you can -- with WindowBlinds 5.5.

With thousands of different visual styles to skin the look and feel of Windows Vista, along with the ability to change color, saturation, and all kinds of other elements, Windows Vista users will be able to make Windows Vista look however they want it to look.

And for power users -- WindowBlinds cuts battery consumption over Windows Vista Aero significantly. On our internal tests, running Vista with a WindowBlinds skin gave back over 40 minutes of battery life on a Dell laptop. You can test for yourself, it's pretty consistent. And if that's not enough, WindowBlinds is faster too thanks to DWM caching.

Availability: NOW for Object Desktop users (in beta). Public release, February 5th.

and here's a link... https://www.wincustomize.com/articles.aspx?aid=142507

I guess I'll wait until 11:59:59pm tonight and hope that it's up by then...

It is being pushed back.  Not by a whole lot, but it definitely won't launch today.

This is why we are always so vague with release dates, no wiggle room if something comes up.

Thanks Zoomba. At least that puts it to bed. SD should have made an anouncement on Wincustomize to the fact though... especially if they posted an exact date in a previous article. I think people would have gotten mad about the "no show" release (like me) rather then a post stating that it's getting pushed back. At least you're fixing the issues... now one last request... please fix them properly and not in a rushed manner because people are foaming at the mouth to get the release quickly. I'd rather have a "properly" working version then a beta one renamed to final if you know what I mean.

Thanks again for being honest with your post.

I've been using 5.5 since it was released to ODNT people and no complaints here.

BTW, honey works better than vinegar.

In response to the person that could not get it to run, Neil should look at the current programming of Window Blinds for Vista and make everyones installation say that they have to reboot before using WindowBlinds. Its not prompting people to do this. If you try and use it before rebooting, you cant get it to work period and you have to uninstall and reinstall from scratch.

Just an update to my last post, Neil... I unintalled WB 5.5, and redownloaded and installed it. It's now working fine. However, I am having another problem: It seems that I can't download anything using the Skins and Themes selection in the left pane of SDC. Each time I attempt to open a library (any library), I get an error stating "There was an error opening the Library. Please try again." This happens for ANY library I try to open. Is this a known problem for SDC? Or what? I know I have a current subscription to WinCustomize (my current subscription is not scheduled to expire till May 17 this year.) My next step is to uninstall SDC then redownload and reinstall it. Perhaps that will help.
