XP or Vista?

I've been familiar with Object Desktop for a while, and I read on their page that there is some work going on with Microsoft.

I just loaded Windows Vista Ultimate on my system. It's alright, but the end-user experience isn't all that different from what Object Desktop may have provided me. Perhaps there's more under-the-hood. It's definitely slower - which may be my video card (256mb Xstasy AGP) and my monitor is a SGI 1600SW flatpanel.

So I won't get into a rant about that here - but my question is, if I went back to XP Professional and loaded up Object Desktop, would I get most of the fancy features (such as panel transparency). Or should I try loading Object Desktop over Vista?

I'd be interested in others experiences and opinions here.

Thanks!

I'll be using ObjectDesktop on Vista. I'm not choosing Vista for its front end, but it's all the stuff under the hood which I really like. It's stuff you dont really notice immediately, but discover as you use Vista. I find it a bit awkward to go back to XP now.

My system already blue-screened today.

I figure the look-and-feel can be achieved with Object Desktop on XP Pro, I don't much care for the rest. (FYI, I'm a sysadmin and I work in the UNIX world).

Simple programs like SecureCRT scroll very slowly now. My system is fairly resonable:

3.0ghz Intel (HT)
2gb RAM
200+gb disk space
Xstasy (ATI/Visiontek) 256mb AGP video

That should be more than enough.

But for what I'm doing, it's not really going to matter. IE: my firewall here is a UNIX host, and my Windows

I am back to XP and I feel good after a bad experience, maybe after one year I will try again the Windows Vista, to many problems for now
