GEforce 8800 GTX ordered

So i got windows vista for free today , (my campus gives it to ist students for free) and now to get ready for Dx10 i have my Geforce 8800 ordered, cant wait it takes 2 6 pin PCIe connectors to power the dang thing.

My build as of now:
K8n-DL Motherboard
2 2.4 GHZ (overclocked) AMD 940 pin slegehammers
4 gigs of ram
2 74 gig 7200rpm hard drives (1 for 64 bit windows XP, the other for Vista)
Creative sound card
dvd rw drive

im hoping the new graphics card will show much improvement over my X1800 256mb radion, but i probablyl wont see any difference until Dx10 comes out

You should notice a speed bump in XP with it. In Vista, who knows?

got some sad news for you im afraid

atm nvidia has some problems to deliver there drivers

And some are even ready to put them in court, since nvidia has said there 8800 was vista ready, but aint. And the 8800 owners is also made about, that nvidia have had alo t of time to make the drivers.
Cant seem to find the link to the site about the lawsuit though.

But there might be some drivers out for the 8800 late febuary.
And to thoughs that use the 6,7 series will have to wait for some vista driver support...

So im gonna install xp once again until they have fix this problem
Oh and im 7800gs+ user

7800gt? but thats also one, in the high end of GPU's.
Well compared to 8800, its nothing. But atleast you can play most games with max.
I can with my 7800gs+(agp)

yeah it can still pull its weight, but newer games like R6 Vegas, made me lower some stuff out of the MAX zone to High or Med... on my 1680x1050 widescreen Medium doesn't cut it

nope, just standard... I had it on 1280x1024 all maxed it was nice, but it got major distorted... so I went back to my native resolution.

Try running games windowed? Playing area won't be that small on 1280x1024 on your screen while you'll get rid of distortion... Then again I'm used to playing games windowed as I usually start them up while in the middle of something else and pause and go back and forth all the time...

i really dont care when they get the dx10 out, just as long as its out when crysis arrives. that games look too damn good.

...I'm sure it will look great enough on DirectX9 based systems. Also, I thought DirectX10 was already out? Doesn't it come with Windows Vista by default? If not, that's silly...

Just installed it and OMG its hUge almost didnt fit lol. super quiet yet Ungodly powerful lol.

Advantages:
1.Enough speed and memory to last quite a while
2.quiet
3.sli capable
4.comes in a nice box

Disadvantages:
1.HOT HOT HOT, better have a well fanned case or it might have problems
2.BIG BIG BIG, had to go in vertically to install about .5` from the end to the hard drive slot
3.Vista ready= Yes..... but NO. Drivers for vista are not on cd but are on website and are only in beta, but they work ok (some small problems with the interface)
4.Direct X10 ready.... NO lol.

So in the end its sad that they kinda lied about it being vista ready, and a lawsuit might not be the right thing but who cares about all that, this card kicks A@@

End of lordkosc's quote

8800 should handily ruin a 7800... my 8800 ruined two of them in SLi configuration.
