Problem downloading blinds/skins

I go to download a blind/skin and it downloads to "Temporary Folder". I went looking through my computer in the Temp folders and wasn't able to find any of the blinds/skins that I downloaded. I tried this several times with different skins just to check if it was just that one. I also tried to search my computer for the exact file name and included hidden and system folders in the search with no luck finding them at all. It is as if I never even downloaded the skin in the first place. I had the trial version before and it would download to "Temporary Folder" and then the program would say that "You have a new skin, would you like to install it?" or something along those lines, so I would click yes and it would install it automatically. Now with the full version it does not do that for me. I am using WindowBlinds 4 (4.5 (Build 185)). I tried to right click on the download button to "Save target as" so that I could specify the location to where it would download and it doesn't allow me to do that. I have also updated to IE7 since I last downloaded a skin and was woundering if that might be the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Roy

Do you have administrator privileges for your computer?

I went through that hassle too a year or more ago and found it very frustrating. The easiest solution I found is to right-click on the download link/button and choose, "Save Target as". You can then designate where you want to download the file to and change the filename if desired.

Works for me!!

Yes I have admin rights on this computer as I am the only person that uses it.

As I stated before, right clicking on the download to do "Save Target As" I get the following error/problem.

My guess for this error is because the link for the download is done through javascript.

To solve this click Start > Run and type: regsvr32 actxprxy.dll then 'OK'. Repeat the process typing regsvr32 shdocvw.dll. After that reboot your pc and hopefully the problem will be gone.

Well thanks for the reply fuzzy, but it didn't help. Still doing the same. It downloads it, but then it is not on the computer when I search for it.

Can you post a link to one that doesn't download for you.

or try it again, and when the little box on top shows up, move it over prior to taking a screen shot

Darth is the one that I have been trying the most, but it seems to be doing it with all of them. Don't understand why it is not d/ling correctly now, but I could d/l just fine before.

I guess no one can answer this one. Maybe when I get my PC backed up on discs I will reformat it and see if that will fix it. Unless someone has something else I can try.

Have you maybe reached your download limit here?

Amount Downloaded 0 KB
Amount Remaining 20 MB

For some reason even when I download something, and hit refresh when it is done, it still says the as same above.

Well, after a complete reformat I have come to the conclusion that I will have to wait untill the script for downloads are changed so that I can specify a location for it to save to.

I can specify my download location with both Firefox and IE7. You can't do that when the download window on them opens when you downolad?

Is it only skins here or downloads at other sites too?

Well when I click download it automatically starts downloading to the Temporary Folder. I have found that in the C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds directory, when I download a skin it puts a folder there for it like Darth[1]. Each time I download the bracketed number gets larger. Inside the folders are nothing.
I am unable to right click as it gives me the error I explained and pictured above.

As far as any downloads I have done since I found this problem, it only seems to be happening here.

I also did find something else out. If I Unload WindowBlinds/turn it off, when ever I download, the amount that I have download goes up and left goes down.

But if I have WindowBlinds on the download stuff does not change.

Could it be like a java or cookie setting that I have set for my IE?

Is this just happening at Wincustomize or all over the internet?

You could try this to see where the downloads are going to.

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types/[File Type in
Question]/Advanced. Put a check in the box that reads: Confirm open after
download.

Or Control Panel/folder options.....

FIXED IT FINALLY. I went into IE/Tools/Internet Options/Security Tab/Custom Level. Then I scrolled down the list looking for anything related to downloads. There was a line that says "Automatic prompting for file downloads". I had it on disable, but enabled it. Now it asks where I want to save the file to.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. Night Train, not sure what that is exactly supposed to do, but it didn't do anything different, but I didn't have WindowBlinds open so it may do something when I do have it open.

Now I can't get the skins to install. First I downloaded them to a folder on my desktop. Then I opened WindowBlinds and went to "Install skin from disc" on the right. Browsed for the file and clicked open. The problem is that it does not add the skin to the avaliable skins to apply. It is like it does nothing. I also tried to open the .wba file with WindowBlinds and that doesn't work either. I had read somewhere that sometimes you have to zip the file and then it will work, but that didn't work either.

Are you SURE it didn't install the skin?

1) In the WB Configuration window, click the "Rebuild List" button. See if the skin now appears in the Previews.

2) Open Windows Explorer and browse to the WindowBlinds/Skins folder and see if there is a folder with the skin's name there.

IF the downloaded file was either a .zip or .rar file, you might want to open it to see if there is a ".wba" file included. IF there is, extract/copy the file to another location and try to install it by either using the "Add Skin" feature in the WindowBlinds Configuration window or by double-clicking it.

1 - First I don't have a clue where the Rebuild List button is, I searched the program in and out, but not anywhere to be found.

2 - Mine just puts them in the WindowBlinds folder, but yes it does create the folder for the skin, just nothing ever goes into them.

3 - I have tried to add using the file extensions .zip and .wba and I get the same results. Maybe there is just something wrong with my WindowBlinds program.

if you uninstall IE7 does it work? maybe it is a 4.5/IE7 conflict - don't think 4.5 was made with IE7 in mind (don't know if it matters)

Haven't tried uninstalling IE7, but don't think that would be the answer. Will try it though.
