Multiplicity no longer works on Vista x64

I am having a similar difficulty with Windows Vista Home Premium x64 as the primary, and Windows XP SP2 as the secondary.

I installed Multiplicity trial version on Vista x64 and it worked immediately without requiring a restart. Everything was beautiful, and I was contemplating seriously buying the product immediately, after seeing how well it worked with World of Warcraft.

However I also installed Kaspersky antivirus 6.0 some time after this, and it required a restart.

After restarting I received the same error message as the OP - "Stardock Multiplicity has stopped working" during Windows loading after logging into Vista.

I was contemplating removing Kaspersky, thinking it may have been at fault until I read this post, and now it seems more likely that the restart was the cause, as I had not previously restarted since installing Multiplicity.

Any official Stardock word on this? Multiplicity does seem like a great product other than this little problem, which I'm sure is easily rectified. I look forward to making the purchase as soon as the solution presents itself.

Uninstall what you have and reinstall the latest from Stardock Central.

Alright, I've done that. The version (1.1) appears identical to the one I manually downloaded. This time, during install, just after clicking finish (with update the firewall rules ticked) it came up with the same error message from Windows ("Stardock Multiplicity has stopped working"), however the Multiplicity options screen then came up, but the program ultimately failed to operate. I closed the options window, and that was the last I seen of it. Stardock Central shows no updates for Multiplicity or anything like that, and in-fact, the version listed in it shows 1.0 (but when you click demo, it does indeed correctly take you to download 1.1).

Could you perhaps elaborate for me on what precisely I was meant to do with Stardock Central? I'm not familiar with the product, unfortunately. It seems like a software delivery service - perhaps not dissimilar to Valve's Steam? Ultimately for me it ended up taking me to the same website I originally downloaded the file from, but the webpage was instead enclosed within the Stardock Central window. Is that correct?

I would be most appreciative if you could perhaps link me directly to the version I'm supposed to update to?

Same issue for me. Is this a known issue that is going to be fixed? My trial period is ticking away and I'd love a chance to actually try this thing before it expires!

Hi, I had tried using Multiplicity as well with Vista 64-bit and encountered the exact same error message. With the "compatibility mode" would it be possible to run that multiplicity activation window in "XP SP2" combatibility mode?

I have been trying some of these issues reported here and have yet to fully replicat the trouble you are having. I did notice a hitch in the system for a moment when Vista 64 was my primary. Currently on the test machines I have XP as primary, 64, 32 Vista, and another XP as secondaries. Could anyone swap the XP and Vista set up to secondaries and let me know if you have the same trouble? Thanks much.

I was able to swap so Vista 32 was primary and it worked on my 64-bit Vista setup. There is not, however, any icon for multiplicity on 64-bit Vista, as I am experiencing the very same problem described by everybody else above. I installed it - it worked great. Had to reboot to install some Windows security updates and when I was back up and running (1st reboot since installing), it no longer worked. It crashes when I try to open it, even if I run as administrator and/or in compatibility mode (Windows XP 32).

So yes, the reverse works, but not the original solution that was so cool when I found out about it. Really bummed that I can't find out how to get it to work again.

I have this issue, And the setup or how many other computers you have does not matter. Take a brand new fresh install of Vista 64 bit, launch the newest version of Multiplicity and it get to the end of the install then crashes after you press finish.

The 32 bit version does not seem to be effected. I would very much like a update to this issue. Thanks to anyone that has an any info.

Nearly 1/2 of a year has passed since this miserable problem was first reported on this forum and I do not see any solution posted. I'd love to purchase this application. It was great until I had to reboot.

Has anything been done about this? If not, are we just out of luck?

The only additional info I have to share about it is what debugging it with visual studio reveals, at least you know it is an unhandled exception:

"Unhandled exception at 0x4c000000 in multipl.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x4c000000."

Using v1.21 on 64-bit Vista controlling 32-bit Windows XP Pro with no problems.

I am guessing since it's been nearly a year since the last post on this that you probably haven't continued to look into the problem.  I used Multiplicity for a while with Vista 64 as host and XP 32 as secondary and it worked great but now that I have 2 Vista 64 machines and I can't set them both up as primary obviously.  However I haven't been able to find another product that works as well as this and I'd like to use it again.
