Windowblinds Luna BUG !!

I have been using windowblinds for some time now and it has been my favorite skinning app, version 5 is just awesome. I recently encountered a bug in windowblinds that no one else has ever come across, at least Ive never seen anyone speak of it in the forums. The app was working perfectly fine until i deleted the luna folder from my resources/themes directory in windows and i realized that windows got a bit sluggish and the task pane was not getting skinned properly. When i just restored the luna folder back into its original folder, everything starts working fine. Try it out! Why does this happen? Does windowblinds use any skinning file in the original luna theme to skin the task pane?

If a skin does not use a shellstyle, then Luna is used by default.

Deleting core Windows files is always a bad idea.

Actually, there is a site that lists the files that you can delete if you dont use certain features.. On one of my installs I was able to get rid of hundreds of files, maybe 100mb of excess crap, and it worked a lot better.

but the main point is that the task pane is skinned, but it does not get skinned properly if the luna theme folder ain't there, try this with the retro and noir skin that comes preinstalled, and this happens with most skins. ive used nlite for some time now, it really helps delete useless crap from windows installations.

Could you provide a snapshot of what a 'not properly skinned' shellstyle looks like without that folder being present?

What Neil is saying is that WB relies on that folder being present by design. This may not be one of those situations where deleting 'useless crap' from Windows is a good idea.

If you want to delete useless crap from Windows type "format C:"

Under no circumstances should you ever delete critical Windows System files.

For obvious reasons we cannot provide tech support if you intentionally mess up your own computer.

The Luna shellstyle is used as a template for all WB shellstyles.  Remove it and you break that (and quite possibly a whole load of other apps).  This is not a bug.

I never (purposely) deleted this folder. It just disappeared after uninstalling Object Desktop. I didn't realize this until Windows started acting up. Restoring this folder is essential for Windows to function properly.

Fuzzy Logic said it best "If you want to delete useless crap from Windows, type "format c".

I'd say buy a Mac!

i'm reasonably sure that every post I have read on this happening involved the poster running something like StyleXP or just hacking in first.

Hello Neil. I hate to disagree with you, but there have been several threads in the past on this very subject. After installing WB a couple years ago, my Luna file was just gone. It was no longer in the resource file, and I was no longer able to restore my computer to the default theme. I got it back from the link Corky0 gave me.

clwoods: WindowBlinds did not remove it.  The installer does nothing to that file and never has done.

In general people do not notice they have a corrupted file until they remove WB as WB will show the Luna theme in the list even if the file is corrupt.  This does not mean removing WB corrupted it.

There are also reports of that file being corrupted on machines that do not even have WB on them and never have had.

Okay, I can believe that.
