Dread Lords VS. Pirates!

I've recently managed to pull myself away from the games I got for christmas, and started playing GalCiv 2 Dark Avatar beta again. In the middle of my most recent game, the pirate mega event occured. Shortly after every ship was destroyed, the Dread Lords arrived. After a little thinking, I decided to ignore the Dread Lords for a while, and focus on clearing some of the pirates so I could have some room to build up my forces. Besides, I haven't had a good fight with the Dread Lords for a while.

A little while later, after I've managed to acquire a few more planets, and a lot more ships, I started to focus on the Dread Lords. The part I found interesting was when the Dread Lords picked a fight with the pirates. The pirates won that fight, but they lost a significant number of their ships. Suffice to say, that fight certainly made that game much more interesting.

dread lords vs pirates... the ultimate showdown

in a multi player game, who would win, kyro or frogboy?

Where do you get one of those? i mean apart from the campaign?

Everytime i try dreadlords on parade, the dreadlords get creamed by the other races.

whoever got the best geography and bonuses would win. What you think this is a game of skill or somthing??? hahahaha

Edit: i wonder how much difference luck can really make?

Pirates win everytime. In my first all-out game in DA{not pre-order} today, I had both Pirate and Dread lords event. Dread lords-lasted 35 turns before they were conquered by one of my custom opponets. Pirates-Ruined my Economy and my game, took out every ship, THEY RUINED MY GAME! GRRRRRRRR!

There is a mega eventin DA that let them show up. But they seem to be rather underpowered.

I got the pirate event in my game this weekend, just after the Yor had declared war on the Altarians (bad move that!).

It was quite amusing to watch the military history graphs for the next few turns. I managed to avoid having my entire fleet wiped out along with the rest of the galaxy by the manly method of running away...

Unfortunately the AI doesn't know this trick so for about 2 years I was the only one with a military - which was still running away.

Do the dread lords get a super ability? If not, they should be getting the arcean's first strike power, since that's what made them so dangerous in version 1.0 of GC2. When the new combat model showed up, they stopped being competitive since their ships are so expensive but they get no real benefit from that additional technology... they'll still be hit at least once per round even if they attack first.

The AI does have the ability to pick it's targets, but if it dousn't find a weak target in the immediate vicinity, it will still fight a hopeless battle.

Mebe the next generation of AI will indeed be capable of choosing it's battles more wisely?
