Which should win out of the following ships...

Hi

I was suprised by a recent combat outcome, so i collected the ship stats and thought i would post here and see what people think?

I had 3 'tiny' class fighters left over from the begining of the game. They survived a long time in my large fleets because their weaponry was to weak to attract enemy fire.

They ended up with very high hitpoints so i decided to upgrade them and tested them in combat against a lone Alterian defender. Of course the defender flogged them like they were nothing!?!?

ship stats;
My fleet, 45hp, 46hp, 54hp. beam 5+5+5 total 15. Point defence 60+60+60 total 180.

Enemy ship, 16hp. missile 43. shield 4. point defence 18.

So should this defender have any right to defeat my entire fleet and recieve only one hp damage itself?

I have gotten a few Lucky Rangers in recent 1.4x games.

I quickly upgrade them to a heftier ship, which is automatically renamed as 'Lucky WhateverInamedtheship'.

It's nice to have a fleet of Lucky Warbird's (or Lucky BugStompers, or...).

First I would like to say I have never chosen luck as a starting ability nor have I chosen the Universalists as my faction. I have never, ever, in any games I have played, found a Lucky Ranger.

Luck being an ability, well, imagining an entire race being "lucky" is kinda silly.

Yeah, I kind of agree with that. Maybe they can change that ability to uhhhh maybe uhhhh perfectionists? hehe

Haven't you seen the NE Patriots any time in the past 5 or so years?

After so long however, you begin to wonder if it is something more than just dumb luck.

As for the original post, just by looking at the numbers you posted, those numbers suggested to me that you would get beat, not just beat, but smoked.

I don't get it, i mean, i have a higher attack verses their defence than their attack verses my defence. So it is a joke that they would win under those circumstances.

As far as i can tell, 'luck' is the only reason they win... i don't mean my bad luck, i mean the way luck interacts with combat - that is why they win and it should not be that way.

I just ran this battle in Kryo simulator. The result is that the defender should win in around ~0.1% of the time. (Had to ran it many time because of the abysmal probabilities.)

So you had 1 chance in a thousand to lose and you got it. It's a really bad luck, but it is bound to happens to someone with so much players and so much games played.

That dousnt sound rite? I did try the battle a second time, resulting in a victory but still, one ship killed and another heavily damaged. You could say i recieved 50% less bad luck than the first battle.
