Win XP X64

Nope. Maybe something will come along with Vista

Hi dinobotclone! I'm having the same problem waiting on the rest of the world to catchup to 64 bit computing, what a pain  If you hear anything I sure would like to know I've been useing Windows XP 64 for about 2 yrs. now and have most of my problems fixed but I am still waiting for Stardock to fix these issues I assume now that all the new computers that are comming out are 64 bit and preloaded with Vista 64 they might get on the ball. Anyway let me know what you find out.   

I would suspect a very small % of new computers will be coming with the 64 bit version of Vista.

Many of our products do support 64 bit, but bootskin & logonstudio are free & unsupported tools which means they get less attention.

I believe the Vista version of logonstudio does support 64 bit.

We see now that vista 64 is very unpopular, what are the chances of making bootskin and login studio compatible with xp64?

Afraid that is a no. Last I checked Bootskin had not been updated since 2004 or something. Maybe earlier. Logon Studio is available for Vista of course. This includes both 32 and 64bit.

While I understand the issues surrounding companies writing or modifying software that isn't used much, how is technology going to grow if the front line (developers) are unwilling to do the programming? I'm not jumping on Stardock, they've been pretty responsive as far as I know, but you hear the same line (like above) from many, many developers, "No, we won't be working on that."

People are always bitching about how unstable and buggy windows is, but one of the biggest problems is that every new version is required to be backward compatible with all the previous versions and software that's outdated. At least the jump to 64-bit draws a line in the sand where software development has to be of a specific standard to run. Then, if you program directly for it, everybody reaps benefits.

It's been a longtime habit of the software industry to rely on hardware to improve the speed of their software and not to re-write their code to take better advantages of modern hardware.

The bottom line is, "it doesn't make enough money for us, so we're not doing it."

It's a crying shame that Microsoft comes out with a product designed to look toward the future and it's absolutely shunned by the majority of developers. What's the point in a super OS if none of your applications take advantage of it?

Bootskin is just one in an avalanche of applications that could benefit from an update. Not necessarily because of what it does by itself, but what it does for setting an example to other developers.

BootVista is a planned software item for early 2008. Frogboy said so publicly just after the new year. Watch Stardock.com and Wincustomize for updates.

Can't help it, have to throw out an opinion.

I like bootskin, but if I were Stardock and having to update 10 or 20 or however many pieces of software to xp64bit, Vista32bit, Vista64bit, and whatever else, the software that only shows for about 10 seconds at startup would be the last one I'd worry about. I'm ok with that.

I won't lie and say that BootVista is high on the list of Vista updates however it is ON the list. There is a plan to get it working soon but with no major time line. Many many releases have come out in the past weeks and many more are due very soon. 

when you're only business is customizing the OS, I'd say they're all on your plate to work on. While some of the applications are fantastic, I do believe that some use specific applications more than others. I'd venture a guess that bootskin is probably one of the few that everybody can benefit from universally. While I love windowblinds, I do benefit on a different scale between my work pc and home pc. I have a friend that doesn't even use it - sees no need for it.

If you look at the list of applications that Stardock has, many of them are becoming defunct due to newer programs that do something better. Three of the programs on object desktop haven't been touched since 2005. There are only around 15 that have seen development since June 2006.

Bootskin is free. That's why it's on the bottom of the list. If there was a charge for it, there would be some incentive to improve it.

A direct correlation is Objectdock. Started free, then became a sales item and has advanced on a regular, if not frequent, basis.

I don't speak for the decision makers how ever as much as money leads to advancement I don't believe it's the case here.



This is more along the lines of what I am sure is going on. The product that is on the main screen nearly 100% of the time that is a main feature of the company will be updated first. Bootskin is only there for a few seconds, and then it is gone. It is a functional priority over monetary. Fact is this is a company of gamers and pseudo dorks/nerds. We still think like that, less like business. It's one of the things that make us great if I can toot my own horn for even a moment.

Would it be possiable to get a list of programs(by Stardock of course) that are XP Pro x64 compatable.

I have read that WindowsBlinds will work on XP64, but they say that it does not skin non-64 bit applications. Is this issue been fixed or is it something that is in the works?

Also are there any other programs that are the same way as WindowsBlinds in regaurds to not skinning non-64 bit applications.
