WB skin animations not working with IE7. Why?

Animations in WB skins not working with IE7

I have the latest edition of Window Blinds installed.  Recently I installed Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 and now, the animations in any Window blind skin for downloading, deleting, etc. don't function when in IE7; but when in explorer they do.  Why?  What setting needs to be changed.  I didn't have a problem with this when using IE6.....

I don't have the answer, but the first thing I would try would be to uninstall and reinstall WB via SDC. If you try this route, make sure you copy any skins you have somewhere else while you uninstall.

Thanks. I was thinking maybe that would be the way to go as well; but, wanted to avoid it if there was another way. I had WB running when IE7 was installed, so I guess that may have caused the problem and an uninstall/reinstall of WB is probably the only way out of it! Damn. Posted this here as someone over on the chats said maybe the devs at WB didn't know about this problem yet and that IE7's animations are controlled by it and possibly NOT changeable using WB. Oh well.......

If you want the devs to definatly see this issue, you should email support@stardock.com. That is the official support channel.

Stardock employees do hang out in these forums but might not see your post.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

This is actually more likely what is going on Maggot. I've been running both WB and IE7 for a while and I've uninstalled and reinstalled WB a couple of times due to updates and the animations still don't work. I would take Zubaz's advice and send it in to support. If ya do though, let us know what you find out because I'm curious myself.

To Anyone who gives a crap: I sent an email to support at stardock over a week ago. Got the automated response and that's all so far; however, have read somewhere that IE7 WILL NOT ALLOW any 3rd PARTY SOFTWARE to SKIN its windows, so......just waitin' on Stardock for a response. Guess everyone's busy with the WinCustomized change, CES, and all other bull. Did notice that the progress bar of the applied skin DOES work in IE7; but, the animations themselves DO NOT, regardless of skin applied. I have the latest version of WB5 for XP. I don't have VISTA and probably ain't gonna get it, for awhile anyway.....

You know I've been searching for an answer to this for some time. I have two computers (desktop & laptop) both with current version of XP Pro, IE7 and WindowBlinds. I've re-installed WB5 after installing IE7, and am using the same skin on both machines. unfortunately, the animations aren't working on one of the machines (desktop) and I've been going crazy trying to get it to work on my desktop. Virtually all the software settings and configurations are the same (the desktop is an older machine w/ more software on it) but still no love. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

EDIT- for got to mention, both versions of WB are the same (WB 5.5) and are fully paid for

Yep, same situation for me, got a laptop and desktop. WB5 animations not working on IE7 on either machine, regardless of skin used; EXCEPT for the progress bar, which is working. The animations do work on both machines with Windows Explorer ONLY. Oh yeah, my stuff is paid for too and up to date!

Guys I think your aggravation is misplaced. It's not Stardock's fault it doesn't work with IE7, it's just not setup to accept outside skinning. It's supposed to work in Vista but just not happening right now in XP.

Bebi Bulma--aggravation is NOT misplaced. Stardock created WB and it should work. If it doesn't because IE7 doesn't allow it, then Stardock support should at least look into the problem and post an answer of some sort to the more-than-a-week old email questioning the fact.

There's a lot of rampant speculation going on in this post... I would encourage all parties involved to wait for an official response from a Stardock Support representitive or one of the Windowblinds developers. If there is a lag in the response time, please understand that you are not being ignored. There may be issues which warrant investigating before a proper response can be made.

WindowBlinds is designed to work with applications that use the Microsoft standard for skinning.  If MS decides to do something non-standard SD has the option of do something with it or not.

Knowing Stardock, they are going to try to skin it.  It may just take time.

I agree with bebi though, MS made the change to the format.  The problem is with MS.

IE7 is different from IE6 which is why the animation does not skin.

It is in the list to look into for 5.5 on XP but I cannot promise if the download animation will or will not be skinnable again.  It all depends on how things changed.

I'm not blaming anybody fir anything, I'm really interested in solving my problem, or finding any suggestions on how to further diagnose my problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This animation should be skinned on XP in the next update of WB 5.5

Well, appears Mr. Banfield has answered my question. I have yet to receive any response from the techies at Stardock email; but, since Neil is Stardock, guess the problem's been identified and being worked on, so, thanks for the info and looking forward to a fully operational WB.

I found the reason for my problem finally. Under configure Windowblinds, go to "override default settings" under "skinning settings" make sure that you have the skin you'd like selected in "always use the shellstyle defined in..." Don't know how or why it wasn't selected correctly, I probably forgot to change it after using some other skin.
