start menu don't always show

This seems to happen on about every computer I have tried, that has no hardware acceleration, including my laptop..

when i first load a theme, the start menu will show, but later on, it just won't show up, but is there, but with 0% opacity (which is useless)..

Does anyone know of a temporary fix?

open WB configuration and post the system information

don't think it will matter, because it does it on every PC that has NO hardware acceleration..

but here it is anyway (this is only my laptop, there's atleast 7 other PCs of mine that do the same thing)

WindowBlinds 5.0 System Information Report:

STATUS : WB+ SRV+ HLP+ UI+ TRAY+

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC.

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine does not support per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

This is because :

Your computer is currently in 16 or 24 bit colour mode and WindowBlinds needs to be in 32 bit colour mode to use per pixel borders. Please adjust the colour depth of your display to 32 bit colour. If this is not an option, then you may want to see if you can obtain new drivers for your graphics hardware.

Your computer graphics hardware does not support acceleration of per pixel alpha. WindowBlinds requires this for per pixel alphablended borders as without it performance would be poor. Please see if you can obtain new drivers for your graphics hardware. Recent ATI & NVIDIA boards should support this feature. Onboard graphics tend not to.

Some of your files do not match 5.001.006

Did you use Stardock Central?

I suggest you unistall WB, reboot, get Stardock Central, install it, register your serial, use SDC to download and install. I believe it will give you 5.1 which may work better for you.

If you're alrady using SDC, check for updates to WB (unless you have the full ODNT package, checking 'show pre release' down at the bottom isn't a good option - make sure it's unchecked and it will show you the latest release version you're entitled to).

i downloaded my WindowBlinds from that email I got from them when I bought it few months ago...

is stardock central a memory hog? this is my school/work laptop, i can't have much taking too much memory on it.. (if it's a run once thing, then im fine with that)

I think there's another thread somewhere about this problem. I've encountered it several times myself. Sometimes it just doesn't show, but when you hover over where it should be, things start showing up. Other times, it shows up and then leaves a ghost behind so I have to refresh the desktop. *shrug*

ok, so hopefully it's a widepread problem (im a tech myself, and when i tried multiple computers and all had the same issue, i knew i wasn't crazy) maybe someone will fix it...

i just had stardock resend the email, and the downloads EXE stated it was 510_enhanced..

it's a run once thing

It's a browser, download manager, installer, chat, etc - only runs when you call it up

there's been a couple. I've experienced it every not so often once in a while, but it seems to depend on what I have running at the time (and possibly the skin, but not sure on that)

mine does it if im just at the desktop and keep clicking the start menu..

once it does it for me, it's a permanent thing, and i have to unload WB and reload it.. until it does it again..

i reinstalled my WB by having stardock resend the email.. i don't seen it happening again, but incase it does, i'll let you guys know.. here's the system information now:

Those look like a combination of:

5.1 release via SDC
5.1 release via standalone installer

Maybe Neil's moving stuff around...?

dont know, but i really dont want to have to reinstall it again, because i got school work to do now..

but things "seem" to be working.. though i have to say the start menu still lags a little bit when clicked, about half a second, instead of instantly like with uxtheme

(700MHz Pentium III laptop)

instead of instantly like with uxtheme

I've seen a few posts of issues with WB & uxtheme - since WB uses the themedll

yea.. while we are on the subject of the theme engine, does windowblinds still theme non-theme aware programs? because it doesn't theme the command prompt like i remember it doing, and when I push Control Alt Delete, and select to Lock my computer (im on a Domain), that isn't themed either, where uxtheme from Microsoft, DOES theme that (but not the command prompt)

it doesn't theme the command prompt like i remember it doing,

that disappeared a while back - there have been posts asking for it's return

when I push Control Alt Delete, and select to Lock my computer (im on a Domain), that isn't themed either,

Daiwa's asking the same thing: Domain Post Link

i had a hard time understanding Daiwa's post... but i think it is what's being talked about, though the screenshot isn't the window im talking about..

(the window im talking about says the computers locked and can only be unlocked by whom who locked it, or an admin, and you cant take a screenshot of that screen)

The dialog I posted about is a different one. The security (This workstation is locked...) dialog, which I think is invoked by the screensaver when you have it password protected, is something else. I don't PW protect any of my screensavers so I've not seen it to know whether it normally gets skinned or not. The network server at the office has a PW protected saver, but it runs 2k3Server & we don't run WB on it.

Yeah, I've not seen that dialog skinned, but as I said my environment has given me few opportunities to see it.
