no systray entries ODP 1.5 / vista rtm

none of the forum stated tips is working

Hi,

been through the forum, but not of the stated suggestions worked... ...tried them all

I am on vista rtm (maiden/clean install) and altough compatibilty is claimed I start wondering whether that is really the case.

Anybody else having the same issue in this regard, any solution to it?

Btw, the machine is dual core intel centrino, Mobile Intel(R) 945PM Express Chipset, Memory Controller 82945PM, I/O Controller Intel(R) 82801GHM I/O controller hub (ICH7MDH), 2 gb ddr2 ram, 120 gb sata hd - 4 partions and ODP being installed on another partition then the os.

Appreciate any sound input.

Cheers

I'm assuming you have SDC installed, but if not then download it here... Stardock Central.

Once in SDC go to Tools > Settings > General Tab > make sure "Enable MCP Startup" and "Enable MCP notification support" is checked. Then go and create a systray dock.

If that doesn't work, try running the file linked below, then create the tray dock.

thanks for the suggestions, but as I mentioned earlier I have them all and nothing worked...

Another thing though, I do not like SDC and do not see the necessity to have it installed just to get ODP going, which is not mentioned as a system requirement either. Still I also tried it with SDC and MCP, but unseccful.

I feel like the statement of ODP being Vista compatible being a bit premature, considering the bugs still to be ironed out.

I also have the same problem. Ive done both stardock central thigns and checkboxes and nothing still. so far i decided to stick to xp for now.

hmm, so no solution to it then? support is also quiet or dead or I don't know - they just do not reply...

Did you go to https://www.stardock.helpserve.com and create an official request for assistance from Stardock? This is a community forum and while frequented by Stardock employees is not an "official" channel.

If you do not get an automated email, it was eaten by a spam filter but you can check your case status from that portal.

tkx, but I am well aware of the distinction between forum and support. I filed this issue already, but as mentioned no reply

well,well, well, great support by stardock, not a single reply. they are just after the money, but obviously do not care much after sales. that seems to be common illness amongst vendors these days...

did you get the auto reply when you filed?
if no, check your spam
if yes, did you follow the 'follow up' instructions in it?

vtol: As Zubaz stated, this is a community forum that is not official Stardock Support. Yes, some do frequent the forums, which is why they have the support section, but you can't rely on it.

You said you understood this, yet still are angry and now are making accusations that are not warranted.

If you didn't get a response through helpserve, contact stardock via email... support@stardock.com. Remeber they have the weekends off.

For the record...Vista hasn't even been released to the public yet, so why should software be bug free?

@bichur, yes got autoreply and yes followd up

@kilokrash, vista is not beta anymore. and as sales argument vista compatibility is being claimed by stardock. so, I have the right to be disappointed by a lie, as simple as that. moreover I am not bitching or cursing here, my tongue is still moderate, but then again I have a right to express my point of view, also in the interest of prospective OPD buyers.

I do not see the point of filing bugs and/or support requests and then have to run after them and beg for an answer? that is certainly not a support driven by the goal of customer satisfaction, again sort of a common illness for vendors this these days - get the money first, with whatever ad, and then let the customer hang out dry.

I am aware of weekends, but also of working days, which stardock asked 48 hours (not talking working hours) for reply and which have passed for numerous of my support requests. Yet all of them remaining status open...

-------

yall might be stardock lovers, but you should not be blindfolded by that

@zubaz, great comment, thinking - whatever! just another one nodbody is in need of

I have a feeling the tray icons are non functional on Vista currently.

vtol: do you have the support case IDs so I can see what is happening with them?

When you made the above to comments I felt that you went from legitimate report to complainer.

hmm, so no solution to it then? support is also quiet or dead or I don't know - they just do not reply...

Here, I think that you were being insulting.

More rudeness.

My comment, "Whatever", indicated that there was no other help I could offer and the link following indicated how to get a refund. I was still trying to be helpful i closing.

Why do you expect good community support when you are so rude?
Reply #17 Top
@zubatz maybe we do interpret language in different ways. Not that your comment was of any help in solving this issue in the first place. Do you consider this quality community support by pointing to the refund url? lol

I have neither been using rude wording nor anything insulting, just stating facts about A) compatibilty issues and B) a non responsive stardock support.

If that hard facts are too much to take for your soul, then I should sincerely appologize.

This however will be my last post in this thread as it doesn't lead anywhere except from straying away.

Thank you for your apolology. Tone is very hard to understand in text. If i misinterpetted, I also apologize.

Niel, the lead WB developer, is now aware of the problem (although I am sure that standard support would have assisted you). I trust you problem will be resolved through him.

So, finally got word statement from support:

quote

ObjectDock isn't Vista ready. The current new build is for XP alone. Vista is still in its beta build.

unquote

So much about advertising ODP as Vista compatible. Moreover they seems to be far behind actual developments, about Vista being still in beta and all.

I am dissappointed about false advertisements and a support treating their customers as dumb.

For the record, from https://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/:
System Requirements:

* Windows 2000/XP/2003

* 20MB free drive space
* 256MB RAM
* Languages supported:
English, French, German, Italian, Polski, Russian, Spanish, Serbian (srpski)
Note: The interface has been localized for these languages, but the documentation and help (where available) will be in Englsih.

The main feature page seems to make it very clear what OD supports

vtol, i agree with you 110%, but thats not saying Zubaz or ObjectDock is below par in comparison to "the common vedor theese".

Sound like OD is not as far along as youd like them to be, Hope your bugs get fixed soon.
Reply #23 Top
shut up. atleast objectdock works with vista like doesnt crash right away. sure the system tray would be nice but least they got the first part worked out. they said vista compatible nothing about system tray working means it will install on vista simple put.

Reply #24 Top
shut up

Nice.

jimmyyy and vtol have a valid bug report. Your response added nothing.

Politeness counts.
