Global Warming is REAL

We need to find a new place to live.

This is a truncated version of a book I wrote a few years ago. I think you will get a kick from it.

Global warming is a known fact. It has been a fact for over fifty years, yet no one is worried about it because it will take billions of years for global warming to kill the Earth.
This is also a known fact. What most people including the scientist have not figured out is that with global warming we will be among the first to die as a species.

Some small attention is being raised by the kook fringe but their claims are so off the wall that they are being ignored. Let’s start on the outside and work our way in.

The sun will die in roughly five billion years. When the sun dies nothing in the solar system will survive. All living organisms on this planet survive within a narrow temperature range once that range is altered the organisms will die. Humans can live within a range of minus one hundred degrees to a maximum of plus one hundred forty degrees Fahrenheit. this narrow temperature range mark the limits of what humans can survive but in order for humans to flourish we need to be safely within this range, between zero and eighty degrees Fahrenheit.

The process of a stars death

As the sun burns fuel its mass is reduced, as the mass is reduced the magnetic field weakens. As the field weakens the star (our sun) expands. The magnetic field that holds in most of the heat and radiation stretches a bit. It has been doing this for millions of years. There is a zone of habitability a few million miles wide. As the sun expands this zone moves with the expansion. At one time the planet Venus was within this zone and earth was a very cold place. The zone moving with the expansion of the sun has turned Venus into a nasty place to live with temperatures around nine hundred degrees Fahrenheit. The oceans have boiled away, the radiation level is lethal, and the global warming has run amok. The earth is coming to the end of the habitability zone. The earth will get hotter, the first signs that the earth is in its last stages will be an ice age. The earth is a living organism that regulates its temperature. But the earth can only do this one or two more times before the seas begin to heat up, the water trapped in the poles melts to cool the earth then even that won’t work any more and the water will begin to boil. Not to worry we (all humans on earth) will all be dead by then. The best guess the scientists have at this time is a million maybe a million and a half years before this happens. So yes the sun will die in five billion years but the earth will become uninhabitable in less than two million years.

Back to the Sun getting weaker. The sun will expand but as it does so will the radiation striking the earth. Notice that there are more people dieing of cancer. Cigarette smoking was blamed for the increase in cancer deaths, but not all those people smoked, then second hand smoke was blamed but that has been proven false. Then people blamed the environment or more to the point humans destroying the environment. This is where the kook fringe comes in. Don’t misunderstand I am not saying that cleaning up the environment has not helped humans live longer. But if we dumped all our hazardous waste wherever we wanted we would not kill that many more people. We as a species need to grasp the fact that we can not save the earth. We can not stop the end of days. We can not prolong our stay on this planet. The last time there was global warming was millions of years ago. It took all the volcanoes on this planet erupting simultaneously for roughly three thousand years to achieve this global warming. We have not been burning fossil fuels for more than two hundred years yet the earth is supposedly being super heated by man.

There are only two ways to save the sun and in doing so save the earth.
The first way is a little difficult. We have to take all the hydrogen from both Jupiter and Saturn then compress the hydrogen to the size of the planet Mars and insert it into the center of the sun without igniting the fusion process prematurely. This will give the sun more mass and increase its magnetic field and bring the earth closer to the center of the habitability zone adding a few million maybe even a billion years to the life of the earth for us. Chances of success are negligible. Ok it’s a little tricky and we don’t have the technology yet and the ramifications of removing the two largest planets in the solar system need to be studied. We also need to study what the added mass will do to our orbit but little things like that can be worked out.

The other way is a little crazy. All we have to do is create a transparent shield to circle the sun that will block the harmful UV radiation and reduce the heat. Short of doing either of these means we have to find a new place to live outside of the solar system.

Honey call the movers

I know some misguided people think they can transform Mars into a habitable planet but it is not possible. Allow me to explain why.

Mars is a third the size of the earth with negligible water and air. Mars is also a geologically dead planet, it no longer has the ability to retain an atmosphere that can sustain humans. It has no ozone layer to protect us from radiation. The best guess from scientist is that it will take millions of years to teraform the planet once we get the technology. By then the habitability zone will have just reached Mars but without a strong gravitational field to hold an atmosphere it won’t do us any good. Any oxygen we can bring or manufacture would drift off the planet into space. Even if those little problems are overcome the planet will only be habitable for a few million years and we have to find another place to live as the sun is still going to die and as it expands it will kill everyone on the planet Mars.

This brings me to the only option left, find a planet outside of the solar system and move there. With a limited amount of time left to us we either have to figure a way of getting a huge number of people off the earth and onto another planet or resign ourselves to the fact that the only hint that we ever existed left the solar system with our deep space probes like Voyager and all our radio and television broadcasts.

There are no other planets in our solar system that can hold our population, or sustain life. we have to look to another planet and that will be very difficult. As space travelers we are still in the womb. It took millions of man hours and a few hundred billion dollars to get three people quarter of a million miles to the moon with a three day travel time. We need to travel at least a few dozen light-years. We have to first find a planet that can sustain humans and then figure a way to get us there all the while hoping the place is not already occupied by the time we arrive.

No pressure folks we will all be dead by then it is for our progeny, the survival of the species that we need to get to work on this as soon as possible. We are willing to do without aerosol spray to save the children, we are willing to restrict our pleasures to protect our children, and we are willing to put people in jail to protect the spotted lizard owl or what ever it is that some wack job wants us all to save. You think the poor fish in the ocean are in pain from being hooked or netted, think of the pain they will feel when they are boiled to death. Now you know we are all going to lose the battle of saving the earth and no amount of conservation can help let’s try to do something useful and get our butts off this rock before we are a faded memory.

"Cigarette smoking was blamed for the increase in cancer deaths, but not all those people smoked, then second hand smoke was blamed but that has been proven false."

Would this be another one of those facts you are making up?

Specifically "then second hand smoke was blamed but that has been proven false."

So second hand inhaliation of smoke doesn't cause cancer, and lead to death?

By the way if you answer this myth, ummmmm are you really advocating we leave the planet ASAP or at least start working (urgently) on a way to prevent a problem that is prehaps 1-5 billions years away?

If you choose, not to answer the myth, and keep your credibility where it is, you'll continue to be in the minority of people, who would have to agree, that both smoking causes cancer, and second hand smoke is dangerous as well.

"When the log rolls over we shall die, we shall die. When the log rolls over we shall die." What makes you think we can stop the earth from its cycles? Global warming may be happening, but it's happened before and it is only our arrogance that makes us think we can stop it.

Global warming is not so fast in normal circumstances. It is a shame Americans put "their"(their capitalists') business interests before their own interests and before the interests of everyone else. And then some of you are wondering, why there is "America-hating".

Weather irregularities, bad crops, flooded cities will teach the lesson to America. Problem is, it is not just you who suck for it..

The problem of global warming, real or perceived, would be better solved by putting resources i.e. capital from capitalism, into it when it materializes as an actual problem. As of right now, a slight increase in temperature change, which could just as likely be a cyclical solar system phenomenon as additional "greenhouse" contamination of the atmosphere, isn't a real problem yet. If and when the earth ever needs to be rid of or see a dramatically reduced force action then modern capitalism can accomodate that quite efficiently. It's better then reducing production that is for sure.

There have been floods and droughts, and changing weather patterns throughout history or we wouldn't have words for such things.

Capitalistic business interests are what have created our modern world, and created a fluid and free flowing monetary system for the exchange of goods and ideas, where each party in the trade benefits. Some parties perhaps more so then others but that is cyclical as well. What's more important to remember about the environment and the economy, is that complex systems have equilibrium, which is a force that gravitates and works against those forces that work against it. If you raise the temperature of the Earth, the earth works via the forces of equilibrium to work it back to the equilibrium point.

Besides the ecology of the planet being at risk, which it clearly is in some areas, dumping rather then recycling of materials, allowing those dumped materials to contaminate other areas is a risk. But even these risk, could be a problem for hundreds, or even thousands, of years. It is much more likely that we'll find a solution, and one that makes money to reprocess, reuse, and recycle these materials.

Product design for example, where the entire process of the product's life and packaging materials end up being totally recycable, and reusable, for other purposes, giving you free materials, to be used in another process of the economic cycle. These things being part of the design process give mankind hope.

Mr. Greene, Have you read the UN report on second hand smoke? I don't mean the summary which says it is bad but the actual report which says that there is no evidence that second hand smoke does anything more than make your eyes water and foul the air a bit. Look it up and read it then come back and let me know how you wish to appoligize again.

It seems that greenhouse gasses and other boogie men of global warming are nation specific. China's greenhouse gasses are somehow safer than US greenhouse gasses because the Kyoto Joke... er I mean "protocols" allow far more of those (less than) noble gasses from them. If reducing global warming were truly the goal of the liars that masterminded the protocols, greenhouse gasses would be the target, not nations.

Either way, if America is the problem, who did the other planets in the solar system warm up? It must be our space program.

Of course China should also reduce their emissions.
But this is an American forum, and I don't speak Chinese.

Also China is much less developed than America. I think America has the means to reduce its emissions, China less so. And the U.S is some kind of a role model, if not you, who else?

So it is OK for China a burn coal without scrubbers and other environmental constrains (something we already require), thus producing cheaper goods, just because they are lower on the tech level? (Which is not really the case). Scrubbers are something that we have been using for years and China already has the tech to install them along time ago. But the Kyoto treaty allows them and India a pass.

Both India and China will be out greenhouse producing the US soon. But without any restrictions on them by Kyoto. I'm all for reduction of greenhouse gases, but not at the cost of ruining our economy by shipping more production overseas to countries not having to follow the same rules. I find it interest that many of the same people who complain about manufacturing jobs going to China are the same ones demanding these regulations.

All rules should be the same for all countries. India and China can afford to purchase the upgraded equipment from the US anyway. I think most of the complaint about Kyoto is not about the restriction, but how some are required to play by the rules while others get a free pass.

I looked at the sites you listed have not changed my mind. My best calculations bring us to 150k years before the oceans start to boil. Sure in 5 billion years the sun will run out of fuel but we will be dead long before that happens.

I know you won't believe this but I have not seen any proof that smoking will kill you. Sure it can cause health problems but I find it disturbing that there are less people smoking in the US and more people dying of cancer. Might it have to do with the three rockes that were detonated in our atmosphere? You know the ones in the 60's that had plutonium power plants. Did you know that every person on earth is breathing in the dust from those three rockets 2 from the US and 1 from the USSR. Now plutonium has killed people. If smoking was so dangerous then why is it that only a third of the smokers are predicted to die from smoking? I got that from the EPA site you gave us. What I love is how if a person smoked or had a smoker in the home in thier lifetime when a person dies of old age they list the cause of death as smoking related. The only people who died of cancer in my family was my mother and my grandmother, neither of them smoked. I was told that my smoking caused her death and I laughed at the hard harted person that would try to make me the reason for her death. Since I did not smoke in the woumb and uterine cancer killed her when it spresd to her lungs, and oh yeah, I was married and living in my own home when she contracted the cancer, in fact I moved out of the house when I was 18 and she died when I was 30 something so I was only smoking in her home for 4 years and I was in boarding school or out of the state most of that time.

I will grant you that smoking is not good for you and smoke of any kind can kill you. It does not mean that just because you smoke or around smokers you are doomed to die.

So the last 25 ice ages this planet has had in the last 100K years was caused by what? At any given day there are at least 25 volcanos erupting each one puts out 14 billion tons of polutants each day. Man puts out 1.4 billion tons of polutants a year. Do the math and tell me how this planet will even notice what we do. The sun is getting hotter, that is a proven and well known fact. It was verified when we sent probes to Mars and what do you guess? Mars is heating up at the same rate as Earth. Are you suggesting that we are poluting Mars as well? I have not read of any SUV's or factories on Mars. Did I miss that news report? Are there people on Mars and someone forgot to tell me?

We have no proof that there are weather irregularities on earth. We have only been seriously tracking weather and temperature on the earth since the 60's and it was not truly global till the 90's so at best we have 40 years of data on a planet that has been around for 4.5 billion years. Did you know that the solar system takes 250 million years to make one circuit around the Galaxy? We as a species have no clue what is normal yet; and if we don't know what is normal how can you say what is abnormal?

Mr. Greene,

You are remarkably correct on this topic. I do disagree that man can do anything to change it because if man wanted to destroy the planet we could not. Yes, we could destroy mankind and a few species of animals but the earth has a way of not noticing mankind so far and I doubt that will change. The earths natural state is a Carbondioxide/ nitrogen atmosphere. The coral reefs were organisms that took the sulfer and carbon out of the air and replaced it with oxygen. Coral farts. So if history is being read correctly then an oxygen nitrogen atmosphere is not normal for this planet. If the tree huggers want to truly save the planet and return it to a normal state we have to wipe out almost all life on the earth. I like it the way it is now if you please.

Look, I am not an expert on environment. But I do know, that lots of scientists say there will be serious problems in 40 years.

Why would they say that, if this problem doesn't exist?
It is no one's interest to "ruin the economy", so there must be real worry behind this movement. You can see reports on the accelerated melting of glaciers daily. It cannot be an accident.

The ozone layer was also destroyed by us, Humans. It wasn't an accident, either. It is more than possible that our acts influence the global warming and other factors we doesn't know even exist.

And capitalism cannot make everything right. For example the recovering of ozone layer is estimated to about 2050. Next time we may fuck up what is less able to regenerate, or not able to regenerate at all. Then capitalism won't make it right.
Preserving our only planet is more important than any other economic interest. In the long term keeping the equilibrium is more profitable than destroying it and then not knowing what to do.

I'd really be interested in seeing those calculations.

As far as I know, plants and their associated soils are the earths largest CO2 sinks.

But I do know, that lots of scientists say there will be serious problems in 40 years.

I see you do not understand how science is funded. Look into that a bit, and you might just deduce an answer.

You can see reports on the accelerated melting of glaciers daily. It cannot be an accident.

I don't think many would debate this. However, I believe there is quite the debate concerning the causes, and the impact humans have in this regard.

The ozone layer was also destroyed by us, Humans.

This is nothing but a blind statement. Do some research and rethink your statement. I don't believe you will find many agree with what you say.

I guess for the same reason scientists have been warning of a catastrophic earthquake along the Wasatch Front (Northern Utah) in the next 10 years... The problem is, they have been saying it for over 40 years. I guess if we give them enough funding for the next 100 years, they might actually end up right someday.

I paged Wikipedia for ozone depletion.

I will quote from this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone_depletion

"the term ozone depletion is used to describe two distinct but related observations: a slow, steady decline, of about 3% per decade, in the total amount of ozone in the earth's stratosphere during the past twenty years and a.."
"but the proximate cause of both trends is believed to be catalytic destruction of ozone by atomic chlorine and bromine"
"the primary source of these halogen atoms in the stratosphere is photodissociation of Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) compounds, commonly called freons, and bromofluorocarbon compounds known as Halons, which are transported into the stratosphere after being emitted at the surface"

You may not be too well versed with the grant system. Governments give grants of money to scientists to come up with cures for diseases or to research a subject that most people are ignorant of. A classic grant from the government was to see how cow farts cause or contribute to global warming. You see the scientist creates the buzz with a claim that we only have 10 years to fix the problem or we are doomed. Now everyone needs to find out about the subject so we will know best how to cure the problem and save mankind. The same thing went around in the 60’s with global cooling. Researchers then come up with something to study and ask the government or the private sector for money to fund the research, in most cases the grants include living expenses for the research team or at least the head of research as well as a salary for the researcher. Yes, it is a business and if your current grant on spotted owls and there need for specific trees to live in is running out you say the trees are dying because of global warming and you get more money. Grants usually run from one year to ten years. The grants for global cooling ran out and then they started to beat the drum for global warming. Any astronomer knows that the sun is getting hotter but most people don’t know this. So some scientist will get a grant to study the human effect on global warming. Then you have others that get grants to prove that humans don’t cause global warming. Anyone that passed basic High School science knows about volcanoes and the ring of fire. No one seems to remember they belch out heat and pollutants 10 to 100 times in a day what man produces in a year. The last time scientists have proof of global warming from pollutants was 100 million years ago when roughly 10,000 volcanoes erupted for three thousand years before it triggered an ice age. Currently there are between 25 and 56 volcanoes erupting anywhere on the planet on any given day. Going with a minimum number of 25 volcanoes erupting they put out 350 billion tons of pollutants in the atmosphere a day. The tree huggers say all humans on Earth put out 1.4 billion tons of pollutants a year. Add to that the animal world’s flatulence and non-human caused fires and the general release of gases from under the ocean and you have trillions of tons of pollutants put into the air that man has no control of. But we have to stop driving SUV’s in order to save the planet. Do you see how silly the argument is? But the grant money keeps coming so they will study it. Shouldn’t we have learned about global warming in the 60’s and 70’s when they were studying how man was causing global cooling? And we only had 10 years to do something or the world would be covered in ice. Gee aren’t those the same warnings from global cooling? Global temperatures on Mars can be checked at the NASA website. Look at Venus and you will see what the Earth will look like in the future. Any SUV’s on Venus or Mars?

It is no one's interest to "ruin the economy", so there must be real worry behind this movement. You can see reports on the accelerated melting of glaciers daily. It cannot be an accident.

This is where you are wrong my friend. Most of the environmentalist hate industry. If you notice all the problems with the world stem from greedy capitalist destroying the environment. For a while it was true because no one knew that dumping the stuff in our rivers would hurt us just like no one knew that if you dumped raw sewage in your water supply would hurt you. We learnd and stopped doing it. I remember a famous picture from Greenpeace of the artic turned baren by global warming. Then someone checked the pictue out and found out that the picture was taken back in the 1920's and color was added to make it look current. The glaciers run in cycles like everything else on this planet. As the earth gets hotter the glaciers will melt. It will trigger an ice age and then melt again it will snow in the poles and we start over again. Where were the enviromentlist when the Sahara was a field of green? The earth has been getting hotter since then but there were less people on the planet then what caused the warming trend?

And capitalism cannot make everything right. For example the recovering of ozone layer is estimated to about 2050. Next time we may fuck up what is less able to regenerate, or not able to regenerate at all. Then capitalism won't make it right.
Preserving our only planet is more important than any other economic interest. In the long term keeping the equilibrium is more profitable than destroying it and then not knowing what to do.

This was a good one it lasted about 20 years of grants. We studied the ozone layer and noticed it was getting thinner and that when it is gone we all will die! oops, after years of study we found out that it runs in cycles and that it is gettng thicker again. Oh well. What did we do to stop that from happening. Europe and North America stopped using FCL's because it depleted the ozone layer. The rest of the world continued to use them and still uses them today yet the ozone is getting thicker. Stopping our usage did not slow it down or speed it up. It regenerates on its own without our help. The environmentalist don't mention that the solar wind cause the rapid depletion of ozone. You don't need to know this just send money to greenpeace they will save us from ourselves.

Giving the Earth every break I can think of I tried to hold off the last movement as long as I could. The Earth is averaging 1 degree raise in Temperature every century the heat from the sun will be about 1500 degrees hotter and the ice ages will no longer be able to cool the planet the water will boil off into space and the earth will be a barren land mass. Yes, I understand that water boils at 212 degrees f or 100 c but with each ice age the earth will cool a lot and redistribute the water to places that are normally arid. The rotation of the planet and evaporation will also help keep the earth cool. It will still be hotter but by then the water will not be able to convert to ice and it will be over. Currently the heat from the sun is 250 degrees f and the average temp on Earth is what, 60 to 70 degrees. No matter what we do by then the earth and everyone on it will be dead.

To believe that humans are mostly responsible for global warming, you have to believe the following:

1. That the earth’s temperature regions were stable, and never changed due to natural causes.

2. That an ice age 16,000 years ago, was not natural, so that warming since then is not natural.

3. That over 20 glacial advances and retreats have occurred during the last 2 million years, were not naturally caused.

4. That the earth is dead. The oceans, rain forest, volcanoes, plant growth, or clouds have no effect on the environment.

5. Mankind is all omnipotent. Only we effect the environment. A few of us with aerosol cans will create Ozone holes, and global warming. An exploding volcano that spews more chemicals into the air in one belch is more than mankind has done in its total existence has no affect on the atmosphere.

6. That raising the average temperature of the worlds Arctic Poles from, -60 to -40 will melt ice.

7. That mankind has more power over global temperatures than the Sun does.

8. That if you take all of the worlds green house gases and represent them by a column 1 mile high, mankind’s contribution is 3/8 of an inch. This contribution will raise global temperatures like urinating in the Ocean will raise the water level.

Xythe,

This is crazy talk you suggesting that man is not the cause of global warming. Keep this up and you will be kicked out of the flat earth society.
