You Say It's Your Birthday!

For the first time in weeks, the entire family sits together for the evening meal. Surrounded by the loving wife, beautiful 17 yr. old daughter, and handsome, smart, college-freshman son, I begin the conversation.

"Since I have you all here at once for a change, allow me to point out that my birthday will be here in only three more weeks, and I actually have a request for a present for a change."

"Let me guess," chimes in my beautiful daughter, voice dripping with sarcasm. "It's a game."

"Now, now. Let's not be smarter than your Dad. It's bad form." I admonish gently.

"What game is it?", my wife asks with resignation in her voice.

"Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. Here! I've written it down."

"Ya gotta finish the first one before you can get the second one.", my son opines, aware that I only purchased GalCivI less than a week ago at Target.

"No. No I don't. And you can't make me!"

Happy Birthday!

Also, by being Dad, having credit cards and cash and such, you could always just go out and buy the game for yourself on your birthday! Better yet, you can buy it before your birthday and call it a pre-birthday gift....

Yeah, that is what I did. heheheh

Just a thought

I can relate to the OP. My B-Day is on the 25th and we all know what I asked for
And as for Christmas, well, visions of graphics cards and MORE games keep dancing through my head
But to get to why I posted... Happy Birthday WhoStoleMyNickName! May you celebrate many more

Thanks, everyone.

As for who stole my nickname, I have no idea. They stole both of 'em.

I was really hoping to stay consistent across my forums - BUT WHO CARES! (5th Element quote)

While I could buy the game myself, then my family has nothing cool to give me for a present. As much as I love them, socks, handkerchiefs and after shave gets old after 20 years.

Excelsior!

Birthday arrived early (with permission believe it or not). I think it had more to do with them wanting their iPods ordered in time for Christmas, and since I was ordering everything for them they said " ... and you can go ahead and order your game ...".

"Do you want to wrap it and wait until your birthday to open it?"

No ... duh!

Now I have this small issue where the game runs fine in the profile I installed the game in, but the opening video is very jerky/slow in my other profile. I copied the My Game directory from one profile to the other, but it didn't help.

I must be something to do with the second monitor that I have configured in my second profile (which is actually my profile used at my workplace).

Oh well. I guess I'll just stay out of the game while I'm supposed to be working.

Choppy video is only on the external, flat-screen, LED monitor. On the built-in screen (it's a Gateway laptop), it runs fine without any issues at all.

Go figure.
