Constructor ships

Types ???

When I first started playing I used the default constructor, until I realized it was just too SLOW !!!!!!
Now I build 3 types
#1 - 1 engine, no range mod - used to build local econ starbases only.
#2 - 2 engines, basic range mod - used to grab resource starbases.
#3 - 2 engines, max range mod - used for range extend on gigantic maps.

Are there any other type that other players use ????

The reason is each ship has a different cost.
I also include the #2 type in Battle fleet groups to grab enemy resourse bases.

That would be "enemy resource bases".

I always build one type. One or two basic support and all the engines I can cram on it. If I can't reach a resource I want. I either build another starbase to extend range or colonize further if still colonizing.

It's all about speed baby!

I typically design one constructor with nearly my current maximum range (or the minimum range required to cover the important areas of the map, whichever is lower) and speed, and another with no life support and a speed of 3-6 pc/wk. I find having the cheap alternative allows some of my less industrial planets to assist with local starbase construction.

i made my own design and it starts with two of the cheap engines and then i just add engines i rarely put any support on any of my ships except scouts just to give them that extra look around

so my two types are called claw and claw 1

I let the game play decide for me. If I find that I have a number of bases or resource in close proximity, I'll let things stand with maybe just a bit of speed enhancement, especially if the Galactic Council votes to increase basic contrustor speed. However, if I am faced with building based far away or in hostile territory, I maximize speed and range and launch volleys of constructors to rapidly secure resources or build bases. The combination of speed and range let's me keep them out of harm's way. I do the same thing with transport fleets to keep them safely away from enemy ships. Nothing quite as stasifying as watch transport decend on enemy planets from a range of 20+.

You bring up a great point vukasika, I find that each game I am building new ship versions to fit my current game ...

This is my strategy as well. Towards the end they can hold 8 hyperwarp III's I think. I will also build core constructors if I am building econ bases near the planet.

Done all the teching,,so here is what I got:

Constructor-
23 speed; 2,7 range

Constructor+
77 speed; 9,5 range

(Sidenote: my tradeships does 82 per turn)

Never bother with a midrange construcor.
Either my - can reach it within three turns,,or I build a + instead.
