How do I download Object Desktop

I have just purchased Object Desktop and assumed I would be directed to a page where I could download the programme, but I keep clicking through buttons, signing up for accounts for god knows what, and haven't come across any button that says Download Object Desktop Here.

What have I purchased exactly? Unimpressed so far by this deliberate confusion.

PinkTweedy,

You need to download and install the program called "Stardock Central".

You should receive an e-mail with a download link for Stardock Central and a serial number for Object Desktop.

After downloading Stardock Central, double-click the installer file to initiate the installation and fill in the appropriate fields (e-mail and password associated with your Stardock account).

I wrote a mini tutorial here WWW Link - which is slightly dated, but should give you a general idea of how to select and install the various programs that are included with Object Desktop.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Corky, I have finally figured out what to do, but it's a long winded business that could be explained a good deal better.

I just downloaded one component which flashed up a dialogue box asking for some widget that I didn't have and the link I clicked took me to a page where I could BUY it, but I thought I had paid for a stand alone programme and wouldn't have to spend more money to get it to work. No way am I doing that.

I'm just downloading all of it one by one without really looking at what I'm downloading to determine whether I need it or not. I just want to be able to download a complete package without all this messing about. It's just confusing and not at all intuitive. I'm hardly a computer noob, but this makes me feel like one.

You can think of Stardock Central as a download/updater hub (or management center) for all programs offered by Stardock.

Once you have registered your serial number for Object Desktop in Stardock Central, all the programs listed in the Object Desktop category of Stardock Central are then considered part of your 'subscription' - which lasts for one year. I suggest uninstalling any 'trial' versions of a program that may be installed before installing the full version found in Object Desktop, due to the probability that the restrictions of the trial version will corrupt the full version.

Note - you are entitled to keep (by archiving and/or backing up) all programs, themes, and skins you download during that year.

I wrote a few mini tutorials on things such as archiving, downloading content, etc., which you can view on my page here WWW Link - you will have to poke around in the 'Articles' tab on my page.

I agree that documentation/explanation of use is somewhat lacking in many cases on the internet these days. The best bet for Stardock software use would be their site 'Help' section and here at WC.

I hope all goes well for you.
