Graphic Cards...

Is more RAM better?

I have to decide between a NVIDIA 256 MB Geforce 7600 GO or it's 512 MB counterpart. My system already has 2 gigs of ram. Which one should I go with? Is the 512 going to substantially increase the quality of images, resolution, and fps? or am I just wasting my money by getting a 512?

More RAM on your video card mostly just allows you to use higher-quality textures. It shouldn't have much effect beyond that as all other specs are likely identical between the two models.

Considering that the low-end 7600's are not at all powerful cards by today's standards in the first place, I personally wouldn't waste the money on a 512MB model if I was stuck getting one or the other.

FYI my old PC had a GeForce 6600 that ran the game at full anti aliasing with no problems at all. The only issue i had is the CPU was too old. New Dual-core has a 7600 and 1GB dual ram and runs the game with no issues at this point.

Spend as much as you can on a good card it will be far superior to a cheaper one!

Enjoy the game

My concern is that I don't really plan on upgrading the laptop I am purchasing. I will probably buy a desktop in two years with a far superior GPU. Just wondering if the 512 MB version would be worth the extra cash. I don't think Gal Civ 2 running on it would be a problem but I'm also thinking of games like Oblivion and Star Trek: Legacy (which I was surprised by their system req). Thanks.
