How will a 1.31 mod save game perform under 1.4?

I have a 1.31 mod game saved. The only mods are some changes
to planetimprovements.xml.

Does the saved game store all of the initial values from the
modded planetimprovements.xml?

Or will I have to have the modded planetimprovements.xml file
in place and have the mod game checked in the option screen
in 1.4?

What I am basically asking is how much is included in the saved file?
Does it include the tech and planet improvement numbers?

AFAIK, yes.

The devs tells us a lot. One of the things they don't often
tell is the compatibility of an earlier version saved game
with a later version of the program.

For some games that go long, that is an automatic. Most of my
games on a large map go 3 days and I suppose you can wait to
upgrade.

The old thought is that you should finish your current game before upgrading the game version. There are normally some compatibility issues with running saved games from a previous version in the new upgraded one. So as an unwritten rule (although i am sure it has been written down somewhere) do not run old saved games in a newer version.

You can always try it an see. Make a copy of the old .sav game and load it up in the new version. If it works, great. If not, you still have your original game. Most will work, especially if in the same version series, e.g. 1.4.xxx. Transitions between major versions, such as 1.3 to 1.4 may work, especially the latter minor versions of 1.3 to early versions of 1.4.
