advanced starport

I have found the necessary files to create an upgrade series for the Basic Starport. Problem is, the game doesn't recognize these as starports so the planet screen shows "Idle" but the detailed screen says "no starport on planet" even though a better starport than the original is there. How would I fix this?

Starports are, IIRC, hard coded. You can't "improve" them.

Yeah, been there, tried that, failed miserably. Some things are for some reason hard coded.

I made the advanced ones as a separate building chain for now. I think I could fix the hardcode if I knew what file and where.

No, you couldn't. It's not a file, it's coded into the game. You can't change it.

Actually Mar, it is possible to change the code. All you ned is a little time brain power and a good set of tools. Though i would not advise such as path as the game still gets updates. Take Moo3, There are several patch sets that change the base exe code to add and fix several bugs left over from the original developer.

Then how do they change it? It must be possible, and it looks like I might have to in order to make some mods work. Though I doubt I can pull off my biggest wish, which is to make space battles like those in the Starfleet Command series.

Hmm, it seems my upgraded starports DO work, just not from the planet screen. If done from the galaxy screen they work.

How are they different from the standard Starport?

As the developers, they can change the code that makes the game, because they have the required tools and knowledge to do so.

I'm guessing the person here doesn't have the required tools to change the code. As such, it won't work.

Nope. When it seems to work from the civilization manager, it actually isn't. It says it is building a ship, but does nothing really. The same bug happens if you remove a starport from a planet that was building a ship.

I would love to have high-tech starports that offer military production points..

i've modded Advanced starports to work properly. they're just tricky. All the coding is actually there, you just have to know where to look

I would be very interested in such knowledge.

I would still like to know how they are different than the basic starport.

Mine are:
Basic Starport: no bonuses
Starport: Manufacturing Bonus and Ship Quality Bonus = 5%
Advanced Starport: " = 10%
Ultra Starport: " = 20%
