DEVELOPER - Will You EVER support...

...bars that display the contents of a directory that you can re-order any way you like (not forced alpha-numeric order)? You know, like all the Pre-1.99 versions did? A good example would be the QuickLaunch folder...

I've been going on about this ever since the early beta versions both on the forums and on the newsgroups. I've never ever seen a response. Please grow a set and give me a straight answer.

Please grow a set and give me a straight answer

This implies the answers given weren't considered 'straight'

yet

I've never ever seen a response.

which indicates either no answer has been forth coming or you just didn't see it.

if the former, then would it not be more: let them drop and say something?

If you are not the developer and you don't have the answer, stay out of it and zip it!

Orion, these are user to user support forums.

Users are expected to be polite to each other at all times.

When somebody craps on my thread (spamming with no purpose, contribution, or usefulness) as Bichur did, I will do what I did. And BTW, that was polite...thank you.

With your kind of rudeness you will never get a positive response.
Please grow a set and give me a straight answer

Not really the way to ask for help, is it? You have had a developer (Neil) and a moderator (me) in your thread and still haven't got an answer. The old adage goes '...attract bees with honey'.

Wouldn't that require the develpment of Orbs and thus reclassify the original question into the wallpaper category?

straight answer.

Now THAT indicates the geometric structure of a Bar, thus reclassification back to Object BAR, unless of course one wishes to do a wallpaper of an object bar contained within a set of orbs which would simply be in bad form... but wait, this is a forum which is very close to the word form.... now I'm just confused! What was the question again?

I've been fluffy nice for over a year on the forums and newsgroups....that didn't get me, feline, or a few others that come to mind that had "issues" with OB2 answered. Look at my UID...I didn't come here yesterday. I know who Fuzzy and and Neil are. Obviously I get very frustrated sometimes (like this) at the VERY over-sensitive feel-good new-age sticky-sweet niceness of this place and I'm sure it shows. I'm a paying customer and have been since long before WinCustomize even existed. I'm just absolutely sick of being ignored. It doesn't seem that nice or p!ssed has any effect on developer questions for OB2...I've now been through three (I think) OD renewals without a usable update to my most important OD program.

If developer is in mood A:
Thank you for an absolutely wonderful product! I Love it so much! I have one tiny little itty bitty issue though. Could you pretty please tell me if it will ever at all be possible to have a bar display the contents of a folder and the user would be able to reorder the items to his or her liking? Thanks in advance, you're great! Keep up the good work!

If developer is in mood B:
Get out of bed you lazy jerk! Now just tell me....blah blah blah..

This is sarcasm, but I just don't have much of a sense of humor left about OB2.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Look I mean this seriously, please just tell me if this issue will ever be dealt with or supported and I would be greatly appreciative.

'Fluffy nice' is good....and ideally shouldn't timeout...

Being 'here' a long time doesn't absolve anyone from remaining 'fluffy nice' to others.

Of course, that doesn't include me....

I will...thank you.

That's fine, this place just goes WAY overboard sometimes.
Being 'here' a long time doesn't absolve anyone from remaining 'fluffy nice' to others.

I'm not claiming that it does. Bichur was being a p3n15 and I called him out on it...and I'll do it again.
Of course, that doesn't include me....

You got that right!

Bichur was being a p3n15

Sorry, can't let that go... Bichur is one of the more helpful members here and looking at his reply to you I don't see any justification for your comment above. I believe an apology is in order here.

For someone who's got a long history with SD you don't seem to show much maturity or patience.

Sorry, neither can I, get over it!...I don't give a flip about what you think.

...I mean that in the nicest way of course.

Bichur doesn't need anyone to come defend his honor. Mind your own business.

No, genius. I renewed about six months ago. I also use other programs in OD. I wouldn't try and get my money back for services and products that have, in fact, been rendered to my satisfaction (with the exception of OB2). The point was just not to renew next time...maybe. The problem is, I do like some of the other programs in OD. OB is just my most used, most productive OD application.

I know! Maybe I should call for Stardock to pay me to use OB if I'm still a OD customer...you know, due compensation for pain and suffering. That's it! OD renewal is $34.95/year but if you use OB, it's just $29.95. (This is a joke statement just in case a swift person like yourself missed it.)

I have always be lurking around here...and will probably continue to do so. Besides, that would be a lot more fun than throwing my arms up, kicking the dirt, and running off pouting.

In general:

Granted, I will admit that I have been a real grouch on this subject, so I apologize for that with no excuses. But you guys (people) really take it overboard sometimes...you'd think it's religion or politics. "Look, there's a frowny, meanie! We must squash them!!!!"

I'm sure that should lead to some great discussions in the future.

No, the nice police have not gotten to me... No, my account hasn't been hacked by some peace-loving, do-gooder... Yes, I'm still quite upset with the so-called OB coder... I started the thread with the wrong tone and I made it spiral downward from there. I'm mature enough to admit that and eat some crow...(mmmm, crunchy). I've seen this hyper-sensitivity here before and I asked for it.

There you have it: I'm sorry....now bite me! (j/k)

Lol, a few stardock guys reply on this thread and still no answer :S

look like they are more in to useless discussion that anyone can live without than answers to questions..

No, what 'we' are 'in to' is not responding to people who are rude. Why should anyone have to put up with abuse? Because you know, that's what rudeness is, a form of abuse. Just because a cetain minority element in society seem to accept 'brashness' as a normal way of behaviour, either in 'real life' or on the internet, doesn't mean the majority have to tollerate it.

This is a public forum in which people may post what they like (unless they indulge in personal attacks, racism etc), people are also able to respond how they like. And of course, people are entitled to not respond at all...

But what the hell...
OB Developer, would you please tell me if you will ever support manual re-ordering of bar items for a bar that displays the contents of a folder (example: Quicklaunch, Start -> Programs, Control Panel, or any other folder for that matter). Currently, these type of bars will only display items in alpha-numeric order. This is a critical feature for me that has been around in all the Pre-2.0 versions that I know of. I would very much like to see it supported in v2.0. Any hope?

Sincerly,
Bob Templeton

Hi Bob... Sorry I'm not personally around the forums all the time I have a decent number of projects that I'm responsible for, Zubaz was kind enough for directly forward a heads-up on this thread to me. That said, I believe I can help with your problem. Folders within ObjectBar 2.0 are definitely re-organizable. Hold shift then drag an item to reorder files within a folder or folder dropdown. Because of technical limitations this isn't possible with the Control Panel but it definitely is with QuickLaunch/Programs menu/other regular folders. Just re-tested and all appears well with the working of it, let me know if you have any problems with the reordering itself, or if the changes not sticking, any of the above. I dont think it would make much a difference, but if an issue does arise you could try right clicking and say "sort by name" first to clear out the old data before trying the drag/drop for the first time for an additional debug step. Let me know how it goes for you, thanks! Best Regards, -Jeff Bargmann Stardock

I owe you a HUGE apology.
My own ignorance and frustration blinded me. In pre-2.0 versions, you just dragged the item you wanted to move without any mod keys. If this is documented you should had just said 'RTFM' . OMG! LOL! I can't believe that's all it was.

Thank you very much!!! ...and again, I'm sorry for being such a grouch (to everyone).

Now, one more little thing. Is there a way to NOT display (hide) the tile of a bar? I couldn't find anything in the program menus or settings, so I modified ShowTitle attribute to be 0 in the OBBAR file (ShowTitle=0) but it resets to 1 all by itself.

Here's an example. See how "QuickLaunch" can be seen behind the buttons.

Thank you again! *runs off to play with his new toy* (OB2)

I'm looking at my "Main Toolbar" and it doesn't have a label showing. I checked the .obbar file and it has ShowTitle=0

Maybe you need to save the theme after making the change?

Edit: I assume you are referring to an individual bar and not a section or item on a bar. They have their own Title= and Properties.Title.Visible=0
