New must-have features coming to KHSM after DA...

If Cari and CodeCritter can find the time to adjust some code in the ship designer for DA or the first patch after, KHSM will see some incredible new must-have features: Rotating hardpoints, animated lightning arcs, and more!

Way cool!

I can't wait to give my ship a rotating Viking helmet! I think I'll replace one of the music files with the Ride of the Valkyries.

I love the smell of burning Torians in the morning. Smells like... victory!

Are we going to be able to make arbitrary points rotate? Or are we going to have to rely on the modeler's (you) taste as to which will rotate and which won't? Excellent work either way, I've been waiting for this kind of thing ever since I realized that none of the ship bits moved

I'll probably just make a 'replacement hardpoint' that spins, with various speeds available, so it'll function just like the existing hardpoint modifiers in the mod. Right now I can't do it, as only hulls support animation at this point. Also it's really frustrating to try pinning components on a moving hardpoint, so it's dependant on the addition to a 'pause animations' button as well.

Remember, my mod isn't about just giving you more pre-built things to use, the point of it is to give you tools and additional freedom so you can design things however *you* want.

You could do that already, it'd just be really hard to attach any parts to that rotating section since you can't stop it. Animation works just fine on hulls though.

There are other mods that are quite nice as well (the TCs, for one). But KHSM was actually the first mod on the library, period (Aside from some portrats, which aren't really mods). I first made it during the beta

Kryo,

Skipping the requisite smoke-up-your-butt about how great the mod is, because you hopefully know that by now (it is the bomb, as the kids say).

I've been avoiding your mod, because I enjoy the challenge of making ships look the way I want within the standard system... like how you have to work to get what you want when playing with Legos (used to, anyway). I've always intended to move to your mod eventually. THIS right here would make me drop it all and move now.

Whatever happened to this? Is it still in the works, have you been too busy, did the programmers have too many other things to do? Do we need to start a petition? We can easily get half the people on the forums to post in support of this. I'd feel bad, kind of like looking a gift-horse in the mouth (it isn't like Stardock doesn't listen to us or anything). But for this, I'll do it.

The needed options in the ship designer haven't materialized. Can't say if they will, but feel free to ask for it on the 1.7 ideas thread, etc.

What'd be REALLY neat is portions of the ship that rotate to face the ship's target... giving players the capacity to create awesome looking turrets.

Kyro, just wondering: why haven't any of the things you've added to the mod ever made their way into a patch? Some of the stuff might not be suitable, but stuff like the asteroid components seems like it'd be an excellent addition.

are there jewelry components for the middle sections of the new influence and military bases? i recognize some parts of the bases the devs made available as jewelry, but the middle sections of both these types of bases seems totally missing. if they can be turned into jewelry, do you think you could throw those into an update at some point? (if you haven't already... i honestly haven't checked the main KHSM board in a while).

I don't think that's really possible outside of the method Terraner came up with using billboarded sprites for turrets.

Well, I'm not a dev, and some of the things I'd do with the ship designer would require big changes to the way the design process works. There's also some concern about memory use/performance since my mod adds duplicates of many models.

Maybe by the time GC3 rolls around, though

I would like to know - if you want to share it - how the lightning arc is done.

It looks like alpha blended texture put on a transparent face... however from what i know so far, no real transparency is possible.. am i wrong here ?

They're actual squiggly models with no texture, just flat-painted by the game in the engine color the player picked (which is always fullbright regardless of light or lack thereof).
