Questioning the left's patriotism?

Good blog etiquette would be to give a tip of the hat to Instapundit or whoever linked you to this. I suspect you don't read any liberal sites at all much less the Democratic Underground.

You do have to give them a slight pass because of the context. I'm not in any of these circlej*rk politics boards but I used to be pretty into a Buffy the Vampire Slayer discussion board, and I know that if you ask a question like "what do you like about Buffy" *within the group*, you will get a much different answer than if you ask them outside or at work. Instead of just saying, "Spike's cheekbones," you'll modulate your answer thinking, "Everyone's heard of the cheekbones, and half the people think anyone who still likes Spike is just a fangirl," so you'll say, "The fact that Angel hasn't tripped over his own trenchcoat in three episodes" or something that will make people think you're still interesting.

So in this case, you can't just say, "I love our freedom" like you would if you were talking to someone from overseas. You know half the people there will think you're blowing off their wiretapping concerns and are a closet Republican. So you engage in some public communication and modulate to "I love the freedoms we have left." Sounds like unnecessary, unpatriotic qualification to the ousider, but that's not who it's intended for.

That's answer A. Answer B is, "If Republicans questioned my heterosexuality as much as they question my patriotism, I'd start making love to goats. If patriotism makes you vote Republican, there must be something wrong with it." I seriously would call my own mother an off bitch if everybody kept telling me I had to say "I love you" or give aid and comfort to the enemy.

Uh, you turned off anonymous comments on the post above this one, but there's no link telling you how to register. The "Reply" link does nothing and the user doesn't know why. If you want more users registered on your site I think you should change the design to encourage them or at least enable them to register.

(I'm using Firefox if that has an effect on the broken Reply button.)

Republicans are a bigger threat to our safety, security, and well being than I could ever imagine. The constitution is under large scale assault right now in this country and it isn't a liberal or conservative thing it is about loving your country and not wanting our core values tossed out the window. There is hope though, freedom minded people are relocating to New Hampshire in record numbers and Bush's freedom breaking policies like the RealID act are being tossed out of New Hampshire like a bucket of sewage.

Actually, if you've read Draginol's blog much at all, you'd know he surveys DU regularly, Far more regularly than I do, at least, as I have no time to read the rantings of angry socialists who are still lamenting the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Now that you mention it I do remember a post about whether JoeUser.com was becoming the equivalent of the Democratic Underground, which of course it isn't or I wouldn't be here.

You don't have to go to the DU to question the lefts patriotism. Just take a look at some of the speeches by Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin, and the "ex" Marine Murtah.
