Playing in HD

Is there any intention to support 9:16 720p HD output? I really really REALLY wanna play this on my projector/my parents HDTV. I can play most my games on it but galciv doesn't even wanna run (it requires a min resolution of 1024x768, which 1280x720 doesn't meet...)

The game requires a display at least 768px high. Anything less and there will be problems with the interface, though you can force the game to run at a lesser resoultion if you feel you must. You should just need to edit the appropriate lines in prefs.ini to set the resolution manually.

This isn't a lesser resolution, its a much GREATER resolution for a much larger and more expensive screen where the vertical lines are just alittle less then expected, its HD output. Heck even 1080p would be acceptable as most 720p projectors can downscale it to 720p. (although it will be a horrible drain on the GPU to render in that resolution)

Yes I understand it will cause problems with the interface if it was forced to run this way, which is why I ask, why isn't there a widescreen interface size? Many modern laptops, TVs, Projectors, and even desktop LCDs today are using widescreen, a widescreen resolution would be wise as it will open up a greater market.

In fact, my dads laptop, my brothers laptop, my roomates laptop, and my projector are ALL 9:16 widescreens. Expensive, top of the line, beutifully high res... To go back to my question, are there any plans to offer such resolutions or is galciv2 gonna be exclusively for older letterbox output.

The game supports any aspect ratio so long as both dimensions are higher than the minimum required (1024 wide, 768 high). Unless you've got a micro-laptop, most of those with wide screens are still at least or higher than 768px. I'm typing this from mine right now, which runs GC2 happily in 1280x800.

Regardless if the resoultion you want to run is 15% larger overall, it still needs to meet the minimum in both directions. There are no plans to change this. If you want to run it in a resolution that does not meet these requirements, you can manually set it to that in prefs.ini, and bear with any overlaps or oddities in the interface that result.
