v1.3 Planet Quality Bonus Not Applied Correctly, AGAIN...

Ok, so after the planet quality not being applied bug was fixed eons ago, it appears to be back again in V1.3. I selected +20% planet quality as one of my Civ traits, and low and behold when i start my game, earth says it's a class 12 planet, but only has 10 available tiles.

This bug is back again!?!?! Please F'in kill this one for good!

hmm.. seen that.. well..instead of lesser tiles like what you guys had, i have a class 13 planets.. it instead gave me 16 tiles. I researched and got my nation into a netural civilization.. free upgraded tiles.. well, planet becomes class 18, number of tiles + another 4...

hmmm... of course, lesser tiles do happen...

So.... DEVS..... any word? (realizes they're asleep at this hour, but expects a prompt answer when the clock strikes 'werkin time'! )

Do us a favor? squash this critter for good, maybe put down a few traps in case it's layed eggs... maybe even spray too.

I've had something similar happen with 1.3, when I colonized a planet and had to make an ethics-related choice which resulted in a PQ boost for that planet.

Planet was originally PQ8, but after that and the ethics tech researched (neutral) it's now listed as PQ17 but with only 13 tiles. Production is kinda broken on this planet too - its at about 50% of what it should be, which doesnt make any sense to me.

Also, it seems that when you conquer a planet now, you dont get any tile upgrades to increase PQ, regardless of whether or not previous civ had soil enhancement tech etc. This is somewhat different to 1.2.

Again guys, same thing. I am going to respond all over this forum because I am getting sick and tired of trying to play this damn game with poor results from just about everything they've done. About the only thing that interest's me at this point is Kryo's Hull Mod. But what good is building ships when you can't use them, so to speak. Cmon dev's, do your job. You promised a good update and we got crap. This should be addressed today, today, today, today. Do you understand? Today is Friday,,, hence the weekend gaming sessions,,,, fix today, TODAY! TODAY!!!!!

As Evil Stormbringer has had nothing but complaints and no actual constructive feedback lately, he has been demoted to Visitor.

I will look into the planet quality thing; we've fixed a lot of issues with the planet quality, so maybe this is an issue that the planet surface is being initialized too early.

i have to say i sympathise with stormbringer, i realise that the dev team here are alot more active than those of some of the larger game manufacturers, EA comes to mind, but since ive been playing the game i have found tons of glitches that realy put me off playing. I also feel a bit ripped off that some of the features promised in galciv2 are not only unavailable but that i need to purchase an expansion pack to get them eg.destabalisation.

Overall i was pleasently suprised with this game and its community but i cant understand a customer service system which tries to "PUNISH" its customers when they are complaining about a completely legitimate problem.

Even if the customers are not realy fair? Please be realistic. After all it is just a Game for only 40 Euro/Dollar or whatever... Not some "need for live" security system in your new car....

When you guys do the patch porcess. When you merge the files you do overwrite the older files with the newer patch files. Could you explain maybe for the benefit of some people how the newer and older patch files are merged for the final release?

What I do with my mods is keep an older version in a folder then I create a new copy of the mod on my desktop with just the new changes. I then copy paste the newer version folder over the older version folder. Is this similar to what you guys do?

The devs most likely use a cvs/sourcesafe system which means every project member has to do checkin/checkout at a sort of fileserver, in order to edit files, thus gives you the current(increased) version in relation to checkedin(altered/updated) files resulting in a compiled exe, once the compiling member got the latest project version from server.

I never play with the planet bonus trait, but when I am neutral (as I am in alot of games) in this new version it is almost spot on. SO what I have noticed is that 1 tile (of use) is lost per 10 PQ quality (not in all cases).

It's getting better.

Bear in mind that 1.3 was in public beta for over 2 months. So if a planet quality bonus got goofed up no one noticed it. I certainly didn't. If it did get broken, we'll fix it.

Well the main thing I'd ask (and like I said, I've not seen this problem and I've been playing the game a lot) is that we only know about problems that we experience or get reported by someone else.

That is why we have lengthy public betas so that people playing the game in real world conditions can find these things out before there's a major new update.

Anyway, there will be more updates to the game so next time I suspect more people will try out one of the pre-releases.

Hopefully. I usually don't encounter too many problems. I haven't taken the PQ bonus, so I haven't had a chance to notice that particular bug. Hopefully it gets fixed for the people that use it, however I don't think that it is worth griping about like this. My two cents, ignore them at will.

Sorry, Frogboy. The planet quality bonus has been screwed up for so long that I just accepted it and assumed you knew about it. Same comment probably applies to a lot of other people.

Exactly what *is* the best way to report the problems?

Edit: never mind...I've just seen the stickied thread.

Just to clarify:

In the last release, 1.2, the PQ problem for Neutral factions was that when you captured/flipped a planet, you would get fewer available tiles than the planet's Class rating. i.e., you would get 9 useable tiles on a captured Class 12 planet.

With 1.3, things have gotten only slightly better. Now, when you play Neutral and capture a Class 12 planet, you will get 12 useable tiles. All of the tiles that would have been available through Soil Enhancement, Habitat Improvement, and Terrforming are still completely missing.

The Planet Quality ability bonus and the Orbital Terraformer have, as far as I have seen, never worked properly. Or they would, until you saved the game and tried to reload it. I can't say what they do in 1.3, because I have not tried them yet.

An email to gc2bugs@stardock.com will get the problem into the bugtracker. You can also use the official [insert version] bug report thread, which CodeCritter and/or Cari usually check regularly.

God dude, don't you understand that this is a site for people that like this game and it's developers, this sites forums is to give constructive tips for the devs, let them know if there's a bug, and other constructive stuff not a site to just shit all over this game. This is the second best game i've played in years (the first being TES4 Oblivion), I don't really get why you hate this great game and the devs so much.

if it annoys you that much the easy solution after complaining, which you of couse should, is to simply not use it.

This is an annoying bug, but its good to see that the exterminators are working on it.

IS there any situation where the PQ number and the number of tiles should be different and are invaded planets supposed to get all the race pick and Neutral Alignment bonuses that colonized planets do?

Well that's just the thing, it worked fine in the beta versions, some change in the final has obviously messed things up. I've tried different races, different bonuses, turned off mods, anything i can think of, and unfortunately this planet quality bug IS back in 1.3 final. It was fine in the beta's. Would you like a savegame file?
