Query about ships that I have downloaded

AI gets hulls that it shouldn't

I have downloaded some ships from the http://forum.startrekgc2.net/downloads.php site and I've managed to get them all to work but I'm confused you see.

The AI can kind of get the ships as well, I put the ships as S0_ so I get them but something’s happened, I double click on a AI ship to see what weapons and stuff it's got and it says its got a hull from one of the ships I've downloaded which sometimes makes the ship invisible and if it looks like it should and it has more hit points than mine. (e.g Dregin Dreadnaught looks normal but has one of the hulls from a ship I downloaded)

What is going on? can anyone help please.

don't play with the arcean as an enemy.. they got S0 style either

Arceans and Terrans use the same style, so if you replace one's hulls it will affect the other.

Ok but why do their ships look the way they were designed by stardock and not like the ship the hull belongs to, and the same for all the other AI races?

Er... so which is it, do they look like the ones you got or the ones in the base game? How about you just post a screenshot of the problem

The 2 scout ships look normal







but when I double click on them to see what componets they have this is what I see and it's what confuses me.





They don't have the hull that they should have it should be ether a Tiny or Small hull for a scout ship. But instead they have a hull from a ship I downloaded, it's the same for all AI players and all their ships, different hulls though (e.g Drengin Dreadnaught looks normal but has one of the hulls from a ship I downloaded).

P.S. Hope the pictures show if they don't how do you add pictures to a reply?

You need to upload them first to a host such as imageshack.us. You can't link them directly off your computer.

I have placed the pictues on the imageshack website but which of the codes do I use to place them on here?

Just get the very last one that says direct link to image and paste that URL into the prompt here when you click the image button.

I love those hit point ratings.

A battle between two of those ships might last quite some time.
If they had some offense, that is.

They probably stole/traded the techs for those hulls, and started using them thusly. They still look like normal AI ships though since you only replaced the models for your own race.

Moosetek13 you should see my ships 100000 HP and 2000 or more Shields/Armour/Missile Defence and plenty of fire power. And you wont ne able to guess how much ship maintenance costs for my ships 0bc. And the longest time I've timed for a battle is 10 min.

So Kryo is there anything I can do to fix the problem?

No, you cannot prevent the AI from stealing techs via espionage/invasion, though you can turn off tech trading to at least slow it down and keep them from all getting it once one does.

Oh well thanks anyways Kryo. Just one more thing ok they've stolen the hull by espionage/invasion but why do they look normal instead of looking like the ship the hull belongs to?

The hulls in the mod are likely just replacing the default ones, so they're named something like S0_Large1. The way the game is designed, when you add a hull, the definition will just refer to that model as Large1, and adds an Sn_ prefix to that name based on the hull style of the current race. So while the AIs have that same tech, the appearance of that hull will be based on the model S2_Large1, etc, instead of the S0 one that you had replaced.

Well, I do a similar thing, but I don't go really overboard with it.
Heck, in my last war with the Yor I even lost a ship. And I have lost as many as three in some other wars.

I name mine S99_ so they are available for any race I play, although I always play as the Custom Race. And I don't replace the stock hulls, just add to them. You can either make them as Hull3, Hull4 etc or simply name them as the model design like Battlecrab. It does make them available to the other races as well once they have researched the correct techs, but I have never seen them used. But then, I have never really looked closely at the names, only the ships design in the viewer, so they may be using them the same way they are in yours. I'll have to check it out.

Perhaps the better way to gain your advantage is through the bonuses in the .raceconfig file. You can up the hit points and defenses there as well. And then you can keep the actual hulls at more reasonable values that won't give the AI invulnerable ships.

I also added my own hull tech called Diamond Hull Design that increases hit points around 250%, and made it a very expensive tech to research. It gets interesting when the AI gets it too.

I guess I just want the advantage without being literally unstoppable. So the hulls I add have a little more hit points, more speed and sensor range, and still the normal maintenence costs. I seldom build more than a dozen warships, so the cost factor is no big deal.
