GRAPHICS FAILURE

please help me. I'm losing hair.

Oh Man I am so frustrated with this crappy game so far. I have not been able to see the ship graphics since I bought the game earlier today, so for the last 7 hours I have been reading the horribly unorganized forums, and attempting to find out what to do.

SO
I have:
Updated all graphics drivers
Installed DX 9.0c
Updated to 1.2
Re-installed the game
updated to 1.2 again
seen that Beta 1.3 "MIGHT" fix my problem
installed SDC to get the beta
Clicked UPDATE on the stupid game listed
AND STILL it says I am running 1.2

If I was an angry person, I would have an ulcer right now, and I am quickly regertting the 40$ I just spent.

I need help and I need it soon.

I'm still working on this...I managed to lose a few errors, but this is really not what i expected from a game that i would purchase off the shelf for 40$.

Clicked UPDATE on the stupid game listed

yes its the program not the user thats stupid.

Did you click the little check box "show pre-release versions" ohhh guess not click it and then you can download the beta. Its in the bottom left side. Cause the program is stupid....

oh and you also apperently didnt bother to check the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS!

the game will run with a geforce 4400... under minimum settings... if your lucky...
search the forum for geforce 4 to answear your question.

I have not been able to see the ship graphics since I bought the game earlier today

Do you mean to say it did work when you first installed it and it hasn't worked since, or that it never worked at all? And what exactly is not working about the ship graphics--are the textures missing (giving you flat-shaded models), or does it show icons instead of models, or something else? We need as specific a description of the problem as possible.

GeForce 4 MX and GeForce 4 Go are not supported and will yeild untextured ships, but GeForce 4 Ti's such as you have should work properly (albeit slowly) as far as I know.

I am getting only Icons in the window, and no ship graphics, no planets no space stations, the only thing that looks like it is probably supposed to are the suns. When i first installed and ran it I had planet graphics with only icoins for the ships, but that was before I installed DX9.0c and the 1.2 patch. I found the button you were talking about and am downloading the patch currently.

re[the game will run with a geforce 4400... under minimum settings... if your lucky... ]

I'm Running a Geforce 4 Ti 4800...not a 4400

So what you're saying is that the game looks like this:

Instead of like this:

If that's what's happening, the solution is simple: zoom in. It's a special feature that when you zoom out the game switches to 'strategic mode' so you can still easily see what's going on when zoomed way out. If the game always looks like this regardless of zoom level, you probably inadvertantly adjusted the 'strategic zoom level' option in the menu (this slider changes what zoom level strategic mode kicks in at).

Geforce 4 is an OLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDd video card

here is a link to new CHEAP video cards:

VIDEO CARD PRICES">Link

I have a 6800 GT, and it STILL bugs down in framerate after mid game, and I have 2 Gb of ram with 2Gb of HD swapfile with a AMD XP 2600

You can see the 6600 are dirt CHEAP right now, if you got 70 bucks you can get 1 with shipping.

Ohh, and did you know your sound driver version is 4 and a half years old???

Here you have a link for the SB Live! drivers(Download the 23 Mb version, it comes with all the applications and sh-it)

not really worried about my SB live version atm, as far as zooming in, no matter how far i zoom in there are no graphics for the ships. I did try that before. did you see the errors that I am getting...are those normal?

I can't find any known bug that explains why I am not seeing any ship graphix.

fyi mine looks like this

oh and FYI Geforce4 ti 4600 and 4800 were the most incredible vid cards when they came out, and I am satisfied with it especially since they run, WOW, CS source, and a slew of other NEW games that have high level graphics requirements. I'd pent this card against any Other AGP8x card any day.

The messages in your debug.err are completely normal. As I said in my post above, it's no bug--you're just stuck in strategic view. All you need to do is adjust the slider in the options:

You probably set it all the way to 0 without knowing what it did (the default is 25 IIRC). It determines which zoom level the display toggles at, so setting it to a level you are happy with. 0 makes it always strategic view, 100 makes it never strategic view.

Yeah well, I got the GF4 Ti 4600 AGP and its sitting there in my 6800 GT's box, and I bought the GF3 ti 500 when it came out, so yes Ive had all the top of the line cards from nvidia up until now, and I would keep my 6800GT on my PC, unless we're liveing in the TWILIGHT ZONE, only then I'd change it for the 4600, or when I buy my new DX10 video card. Com on, you can get a very cheap video card for $70, and it probably runs 10 times faster than yours with more features and effects, your card isnt even Pixel Shader and vertex Shader 2.0 , if you play other games your really missing out, and they look a lot more beatiful than you can imagine, lets take FarCry for example, even the XBOX version' water is going to look better than with a GF4.

But I guess every1 has their own opinion their entitled to.

Oh yeah, and about the audio drivers, I just pointed out for the link , just helping yo out, but OK if you want to stay with those, kinda opposite Intuitivism.

Enjoy your game
