Problem with some apps not automatically starting on Windows boot

Hi,

I am loving the apps in the Object Desktop suite. I have also purchased ObjectDock, and use that as a complete 'replacement' for the standard Windows GUI.

Now, to the issue:

The majority of programs that I have installed, start up fine when Windows load, but I have noticed that there are a few that simply do not load. They load perfectly if you start them manually, but this is a pain.

Specific examples are:

- Sygate Personal Firewall
- Symantec Antivirus
- Key Launcher (a program that handles shortcut key actions for my laptop)

I am not sure exactly which component of the Object Desktop suite is causing this issue, or whether it is ObjectDock that causes the problem.

I can see that the entries for all those programs are still in the Registry, under:

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\

...but they just won't startup automatically!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't use any of those.
Haven't had any issue with anything not running at startup. I have ODNT and ODfree.
I had Norton before and the computer I'm sitting at has it, and it has an option to run when windows loads.

I'm assuming the one's you mentioned have that option and you've already checked to make sure it's ticked.

Usually, a first work around until a real solution comes along is to go into WB Configuration and add those to the per application to not be skinned. Then see what happens.

Might help to know which programs you have running at start up.

I am having the same problem. It is with AVG Anti virus, Spybot, and Pest Patrol. I do not use Object Dock, but do use WindowBlinds, Icon Packager and widgets. I just reformatted this computer and thought that something had gone wrong with that, but after reading this, I wonder.
I am very frustrated too. I have put all the progs I mentioned in the start up file, yet they will not until I do it manually. Do you use Icon Packager. I have a bad feeling it may be the culprit. I was not using it till I reformatted. I think I will delete it and see what happens.

what version of IP?

3.11.106. I reset my icons back to default and uninstalled it and then rebooted, but no change.

huh

not at home to check mine

You and OP are the only 2 I've found with this so far.
Maybe not IP related? (at least I hope not another iprepair thingy.)

what widgets?

The ones that come with it. I haven't had a chance to restore any of my other ones yet since the reformat. I don't think it's IP related anymore since it didn't help to remove it.

Totally forgot (since it's not app specific) but every so often when I log on to the system - my task bar doesn't show anything loading at all - so I just log off and back on it it all shows up.

Thanks Sir Bichur! I have got everything working now. Had to put the progs in question in all of my start up files. Not just under my name. What a pain, but done! lol

A VERY handy little free app for monitoring and changing startup programs and locations is Mike Lin's Startup control panel app. I would never own a computer without this.

You can get it here: WWW Link

seriously try this. You can move startup programs from one place to another, you can temporarily disable any or all startup programs (perfect if you are installing updated video drivers or something which requires constant reboots)

By that, do you mean it will change the start up order?

I'm really not sure which order things are started in unfortunately.

The startup locations monitored are: Startup (user), Startup (common), HKLM/Run, HKCU/Run, and Run Once.

I tried once to figure out which of these goes first so I could put my firewall there.

I think that the Stardock MCP loads before all those listed above.

Hi, with me happens the same problem: suddenly the Objectdock closes and the tray icon remains in the Status Bar.

I use the Kaspersky Antivirus.

Thanks.

would it be somewhere around about after running 30 min?
