Just wondering, is there any way to change to a previous update without having to reinstall galcivII?

It depends what kind of update you are wanting.

- If you are playing 1.3 beta 2 and want to play the 1.2 version, you just need to uncheck "show prerelease version" and update using SDC

- If you are updating regularly the game through SDC, you should ensure that SDC automatically create an archive each time you are updating the game. That way, you will only need to restore an archive to get a previous update

Short Answer: No (since if you knew about the long answer you wouldn't be asking, and so it proabably doesn't apply to you).

Long Answer: Yes, IF you archived the game before downloading the update (this can be done through Stardock Central). If you did so, you can restore to the archived version.

Another possiblility is try a file sharing server like fileshack.com. I usually go there when I want to play an old game that I need a patch for and the company has gone out of business. Usually, I can find all the versions that were created on that site. Just a suggestion you might want to try.

Hey now, don't count us out yet

As to the OP's question: Peace Phoenix nailed it. Your best bet is always to archive it in SDC before you patch. Simply disabling 'show pre-release versions' and patching back works sometimes, but not always, as it can mix some parts from the new and old patches and cause problems. So if you didn't archive it, I would advise a full reinstall to avoid any potential issues.
