Windowsblinds 5 problem - menu went black after software installation

Hi,

Since I saw this problem on 2 different computers I think it's time to post a bug description.

Today after installation of speedcommander 11 (could be any softwareinstallation) my windows menu became black and the titlebar + window icons are invisible:

Without installing software, I got no problems in most cases, though sometimes after the windows saver popped up, I got the same problem.

This is my config:

WindowBlinds 5.0 System Information Report:

STATUS : WB+ SRV+ HLP+ UI+ TRAY+

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC.

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

You have one monitor in total.

(Plug und Play-Monitor) 1 is attached to RADEON 9500 PRO / 9700

Wblind.dll 2006/08/15 17:50:10
Wbsrv.dll 2006/08/15 17:50:18
Wbconfig.exe 2006/07/13 18:37:40
Wbload.exe 2006/03/13 17:54:12
Wbhelp.dll 2004/09/18 16:37:00
Wbui.dll 2005/12/06 21:29:06
Tray.dll 2006/04/13 17:29:04

I got both: "Never use per pixel boarders..." and "enable if you have corrupted titlebars..." activated.

This is no cracked version, so no bugging please.

I got an ATI Radeon 9500 PRO

Catalyst 6.8 Windows XP (6-8_xp-2k_dd_35179) from 08/18/06

okay.
now ya gotta wait for some one with knowledge.

I was just asking to have the info ready.

I checked Pictoratus' post (Graphics Cards and WB5) and ATI Radeon 9500/9700 with latest drivers had no issues, but the post was in January.

I got the same problem with a DELL OptiPlex GX620 ( w/ IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 950) @ work

So this is really no "one freaky hardware" situation.

The theme is this time "Eminence" just in case you ask, but it could be any other. Just thinking this one is technically well designed.

Great after I posted that above I lost my start button...

And I found Dr Watson in my Task Manager!!! After trying to reload the theme, now testing with Noire.

After unloading and loading of windows blinds, activating noire theme -
surfing the web a bit, I got the same problem as in the picture above, unloading window blinds for now, simply annoying.

You need to install the latest WB build.  You have a beta build installed which had problems on some computers.

Actually I had the latest beta installed...

Ok deinstalled WB, rebooted and reinstalled the release version still I get:

seems to me like the same version like I posted above?

Stardock Central though claims I got:

WB 5 - 5.01.006 installed (during deinstallation I also "deleted all files, including skins, themes and games" (rebooted of cause after deinstallation)

I coulda sworn 5.01.006 was dated in june - check the WB history file via SDC

yes those are the same

The version you have installed is not the latest beta and is also not the last release version.  The build you have is one of the builds which has a bitmap loss issue on some machines.

The latest beta has files from the 23rd August.

Alright, precisely I had:

WB 5.01k-b-.015 installed. Up todate is 5.01-b-.016 - At least that is what SDC is telling me.

What you need is 5.01l.016 but the k 015 build should have been ok too.

Wbconfig should show dates of 23rd August for wblind.dll & wbsrv.dll.  If not, then the files have not been updated.

how did the previous betas work for you?
Same as now, I checked the forum for this reason and find out your suggestions.
Seemed all ok at the beginning but yesterday got same problem.
I tried also yesterday the new update of the graphic driver of Nvidia, 91.47,
but only if I unload windowblinds everything seems fine again.
This happens not everytime, but it's really very frequent.

Honestly there's another small problem. Icons in my systray looks nice (high resolution) when
windowblinds is loaded and awful(low resolution) when is unloaded and doesn't matter when I change resolution of monitor... 800x600 or anything higher.
Maybe this two problems are connected.

I never re-install my computer, but I hadn't this issue until I installed windowblinds.
