So I was looking at the Metaverse high scores and noticed that the current #4 (link) has a couple of games on Gigantic/Suicidal that were won by military conquest in 2-3 years?!! How is that even possible? Especially within 24-30 turns, that's not even enough to research/manufacture sufficiently speedy or long ranged troop transports to cross the galaxy. I'm completely baffled. Any ideas?

2-3 years = 100-150 turns (one turn per week). That being said, it is quite the fast victory anyway given the map size and difficulty.

Personally, I enjoy a bit of a longer game so that I can get fully into it.

Just to set a record, I turned on allied victory, and set all races to be allied with me at the start.

1 week victory! Beat that.

I got a military conquest victory on gigantic in 1 year

Check my metaverse out to confirm, played as the Korx.

My guess of how one might do that is to put only one other race on the map, and then restart until they start near you. Of course I might be completly wrong, but winning in 2 years like this doesn't seem to insane.

Unfunf was playing using algorithms. The AI were completely crippled and had absolutely no chance to survive, so 2 years wouldn't be that hard.

Riiiight, that statement shows you really don't know what algorithms ARE, do you? They don't cripple the AI, it still plays as it would always play. It simply lets the player play at their best.

I tried this and it worked pre 1.2 I believe, as it was so disgustingly cheesey never saved the result to the metaverse and never did it again. Stardock have fixed it now, so in metaverse games the closest u can start with other races is friendly, I believe.

Yr wrong on this Marcathonas and Draknost is correct.

I re-created what unfunf was doing, he was simply maximising every single aspect of the game which related to metaverse scoring. The only really cheesey action he was doing was keeping the one race he was sharing the galaxy with contained so he could maximise his society, economic, military and tech score by Dec 22nd in the 2nd or 3rd year of a game. It was a way of scoring the highest number of points in the shortest playing time, its just an equation (or sweet spot as stardock call it), unfunf just perfected it (or nearly so) with his algorithms, I can do it with instinct nearly as well. Also alot of metaverse players do it, Master U seems to have hit on the same/similar system.

Stardock can't and should not interfere with people trying to play the perfect game of GC 2 or powergaming, as alot of players like to push the limits of a game design.

It would have been flagged as a cheat game anyway (such has been the case since before release--I used that method to get the #1 meta spot in the early betas)

Duh! It's 1 turn per week. I don't know why I was thinking 1 turn per month. Still a damn impressive feat though. Now if someone can do it in 24-30 turns like I was thinking....

P.S. Suicidal/Gigantic by military conquest in 1 year scores less tha 50,000 points? Now I'm totally confused by how scores are tallied. You'd think it's much, much harder to win earlier versus improving population/economy/influence/military/technology.

Yea, baffles me how you can accomplish a military conquest in 2 or 3 years with Gigantic on Suicidal. But, it's possible and the Metaverse scores prove it. I guess you have to come out swinging, but I never have the nerve to do that. More power to the masters.
