sdmcp.exe stops windows xp from loading

how do I keep this from happening?

I'm a big fan of WindowBlinds and ObjectDock. However, I find that sdmcp.exe constantly interferes with the bootup of Windows XP. Every time I start Windows, I have to go into Task Manager and terminate the sdmcp.exe process. After I do so, Windows continues to load and everything works fine, but it's an irritation to take that step. Any thoughts or suggestions will be MUCH appreciated.

Not sure why it would be doing that, but you should be able to turn MCP off in SDC's options.

You could always try a newer version of MCP: http://tinyurl.com/qa7kf

Thanks, that sounds like a posssibility. But how do I do that? I don't see any such option in the WindowBlinds configuration screen (or the taskbar popup menu), or in Stardock Central. Is here another place to configure SDC options? I really appreciate your help.

In SDC, Tools|Settings. The second and third options up from the bottom of the General section. Uncheck them. Be aware that any SD apps you have that display the systray will stop working.

Thanks, Zubaz. I'm sorry to say that didn't make a difference.

Are we looking at the same options? When I go to Tools|Settings in SDC, the second and third options from the bottom of THe General section are "Clear download cache on Refresh Application Data"(second from bottom) and "Automatically install purchased products from store"(third from bottom). That doesn't seem to be what you have in mind.

I did change some other settings, in an effort to trim down what SDC does automatically. But, again, Windows stalls until I terminate sdmcp.exe as a process.

Thanks for making me realize that SDC has a Tools|Settings menu, which I had not noticed before. Any other thoughts or suggestions on how to get over the sdmcp.exe problem? Thanks very much.

OK, on the General tab . . there is another General section. Ugh . . Stardock apps can be redundant sometimes. Take a look at the fourth and fith items from the top, the ones that start with "Enable MCP . . "

Sorry about the poor instructions.

Zubaz, I just looked at the settings again and I now see that you were referring to the second and third options from the bottom of the General subsection WITHIN the General section on the left. Those two options include "Enable MCP Smart Startup." I already had those options unchecked. So that doesn't seem to be helping.

Oops! Zubaz, I just realized that I told you wrong in my reply a moment ago. In my haste, I had NOT unchecked "Enable MCP notification area support." So I unchecked that option, rebooted, and Windows loaded up completely without stalling. WindowBlinds and ObjectDock also loaded without error. Hooray! You solved my problem! You are a prince. You are a scholar and a gentleman. You are master of the universe. Thanks a million.
