Is there anyone REALLY happy with IconX

I have tried he shareware version and I'm thinkinf purchasing IconX, but after looking at this forum, It looks like IconX is unstable.

But I do know how it goes, You always here from the people with the problems, but not from the people that are not having any problems.

Would just like to know what you all think.

Thanks for any replys.

I have never had any problems either. I also use it in combination with other Object Desktop components.

Thanks for the replys.

I was thinkingn of getting Object Desktop 2007, but after seeing all the problems from the posts here, I don't know if i should take the risk.

Fuzzy logic and Isand Dog,

how long have you had IconX? It looks like some of the problems people are having with Iconx ( and others ) is that they are changing things around and it seems to hand the apps up.

Do you guy mess around with the setting? Do you have any other Stardock apps installed, like DesktopX or Iconpackager?

I have the full suite of ODNT and run most of the apps all the time. I would say that I have very few problems and most are due to using alphas and beta products.

One of the cool things about ODNT and Stardock is that they allow to use their beta products fairly early in the build process. The stable releases are just that, stable.

However, these products are very integrated into the OS, they are making fundemental changes and that can cause conflicts. Especially if the user has tweaked usingn other tools.

I just renewed again yesterday for the seventh year I think. I'll do it again and reccommend you hop on the bandwagon.

As a side not, I'd install each app one at a time and customize it before you install another. It's not that I expect a conflict, but it can be a bit overwhelming to change everything at once. {and if there is a problem, troubleshooting is much easier]

I agree with Zubaz.

Been using ODNT 3yrs (never even tried the trials) with basically no problems.
I use SDC (Stardock Central) to download/install/archive so when I use a BETA and it glitches, I have an easy roll back until the glitch gets resolved.

but after seeing all the problems from the posts here

How often do you go to a support forum where people are only posting "no problems"?

Sure, you'll see problems posted here...it is the purpose of the forum... but look and see if anyone is trying to help out.

It looks like some of the problems people are having with Iconx ( and others ) is that they are changing things around and it seems to hand the apps up.

a few of the glitches I've read on IconX (and others) is people are also using another app or 2 that may be trying to do something that conflicts

I was thinkingn of getting Object Desktop 2007

If your are hesitant, look at this way - you are considering purchasing IconX... are there any other of the trials you are considering purchasing (Windowblinds, icon packager, etc)? Add them up and then compare to ODNT, then go through the ODNT list of components and see what else you'll get.

Bichur, I agree with everyhting you said. It makes sence. But for the life of me I can't find what ODNT stands for. And thanks to everyone for the replys and comments.

Always has been for me....

The only problem I've ever come across is when you have a large (>3+mb) image file on your desktop, it tries to render it into an icon and can max out your available memory while doing so. Frankly, I think they fixed this a version or two back because I haven't had any problems with IconX recently.

The one issue I had with IconX was seeing my desktop icons for a moment during boot in their default state until IconX loads, at which point the IconX theme takes over. This may or may not be an issue with the program now, and may or may not bother some people (I boot daily).

Could just be my machine (running a single core processor), who knows?

I use ObjectDock instead.

I really can't say anymore than what Zubaz and Bichur have already said. I highly recommend OD.

Never had a problem with IconX, but it does seem to use a lot of ram. I to prefer OD.

I issue I use to have with IconX was if my icons were set to align then sometimes when running IconX my icons would realign and stack a bunch on top of each other
