As far as I know, blow up planets, just like the death star in Star Wars.

They also gave you the ability to move galactic resources (at one sector per turn), so you could move them back into your own territory.

The other side of the terror star was a massive cultural center that moved as a starbase too. Bringing in a couple of dozen constructors into one of the AI's sectors and then creating the Cultural base in one move was a sure fire way of flipping the AI's planet in one turn. In GCI the AI never learned to use Terror Stars or Cultural bases and the tactic of using them was considered to be a major 'cheese' play.

Whilst i do miss them in GCII, for balance i am happy to see them not there. Maybe in the future if Frogboy and co. can get the AI's using them correctly they may return as there is nothing more scary than looking up from your back yard and seeing a weapon the size of a small moon smiling back at you

"We come in peace... Or you end up in pieces!!"

I want terror star in the game too! then we could change his model to Death Star!
and I never saw the terror star in action! I didn't have GCI.

if anyone have a screenshot of the terror star in action, please post it here...

Thnaks

Terror stars were so named and modeled to avoid any conflict with Lucas films, but they were wonderfull.

You could destroy a planet

they tech tree to get to them was kinda slow and they where even slower but they were wonderfull!!

I was so sad when they where not included in this version (hint hint Mod makers)

I also miss the space sharks (space monsters that attacked everything) as a random threat the pirates are not to interesting.

I hope and prey (pun intended) that both are in the expansion pack, even one of them in the expansion pack. If not they is not really a reason to buy it with the added features posted so far

if you still have the terror star model, starbase modules, texture, and details I could bring back the terror star!

i never got galciv1 in fact the only reason i bought this was because i was bored. The terror star sounds cool though i wouldnt like to see it be used in galciv2

i would love the terror stars too, heck if you were to find the old threads youd see loads of people with, and maybe an option to disable them for those who dont want them.

They actually blew up stars on the map. And if you put the Avatar Killer and Overlord Killer Modules on, they became nearly immune to attack.

On one game where I was about to get a tech victory, I instead built a Terror Star, and Excalibur (most powerful battleship in the game, can wipe out scores of rangers or avatars) and my originial survey ship, now uberly jacked-up from finding so many anomalies.

I turned on my Altarian and Arcean allies and went on a killing rampage with them. I had put every starbase module in the game on that Terror Star.

They may still be possible to build, if I can find a way that will alow a module that when activated, like the colonize button for exampe, it then subtracts 10% from the planet quality. Not perfect but it may be dooable im hoping.

Instead of having Terror Stars a weapon that reduces planet quality, not bad I like that. But it would have to be at the end of long tech tree and be counted by techs that could repair the damage.

Or perhaps military starbase that could move on destroy planetary improvements?

The terror star code is disabled within the game itself. Without that, you can't mod in any sort of mobile starbase.

Isn't Stardock planning on getting terror stars into the expansion? The main problem is getting the AI to work with them.

who cares? if the terror star will be back in the game, every Star Wars modder dream will come true! to change the model of the starbase to the Death Star model! then it'll be a true success to the Star Wars modders.

Right now it appears that won't be happening, unfortunately.

Why do game devs seem to hate things that bring well...terror...like the terror stars?
why terror? the terror star is not a terror at all. you use it as a major civ, not a terror organization......

I know that, but what I mean is when a major civ sees a massive mobile starbase that's gonna blow up one of their planets, you gotta admit the people on that planet are probably pissing themselves.

I really miss the Terror stars this last game more then every.
i was the last Evil race and was being beat on by 4 Races will my ally who was also ally with the other 4 just watched.

I had Probly 10-12 fully built starbases and was just about to start pumping out new ships when they attacked me.

Now if terror stars where still around i could have pumped out a couple last Construction Ships and made them and maybe got my enemies attention.

But sadly they just sent wave after wave and killed most of my Star Bases, then had a clear line on my much weaker ships defending my Planets.

Im supprised by how many people never got the chance to enjoy GC1. there were alot of things in there i enjoyed more then i did in GC2. It seems the focus now adays is on graphics and less on game play. i keep seeing games get downgraded to allow for better graphics or eye candy.

Terror stars were an achivment, though if they be made in the game, they should take time to construct, limit the amount of constructers per tern and also alow for an alert to other players with there Spy net up to know the location of these beasts. they were hard to kill, and boy you didnt want the enemy to have any of them.

the ability to move starbases alone is a pretty cool idea, im still waiting for the tech to allow you to make your own planets/stars.

and has anyone noticed you can tech up to transend life but you can research technologies the dread lords had? such as bio weapons/ships/ ect?

Well, while it wouldn't be possible to mod a true Terror Star, you could come close in a few aspects, as well as modding a mobile starbase....especially in Dark Avatar with the Spore component...it would end up pretty cheesy and not nearly close enough to truely be called a "terror star"
just paint a planet gray and call it good. maybe add some detail. or use a moon perhaps?

**edit** by modding a mobile starbase, components would not play a part in the picture.
