I have to say this is pretty compelling proof that the ai needs to improve its planet handling abilities lol. Its had this one since near the start.

Oh and this is running 1.2

Damn, those Thalans know a good planet when they see one. The highest planet I ever found was a class 21 which was in the hands of the Altarians, it was downgraded to a class 19 when I used Mass Drivers to invade, I was in a hurry okay?

I never get super planets like the one above..highest i get is 21-26...but seriously the AI needs to fix up planets properly..

I conquerd an a Korx type 26 planet and they had 2 300% research bonus tiles and 2 300% Manufucturing bonus tiles...what had they built on them...3 embassy's and farm on the other..i mean come on!!!

Don't worry, PQ 26 is the maximum under "normal" circumstances. You need a colonisation event (moral choice) or one of the random events increasing the PQ of a colonized planet to get more than that - aside from terraforming, of course.

I think this is probably a bug of some sort however. The planet looks like a gas giant! It might be possible however. C26 + colonisation event + neutral civ (opens up all tiles)

This planet was created through the 'all class 0's go up be X amount' random event, so the Thalans may have just got it. And even then, they may have razed some of the buildings before you captured it (yes, the AI will do that if it thinks it'll lose a planet).

Is it just me or do the larger planets tend to have fewer and fewer tiles with bonuses? I've hardly ever seen a 16+ planet with manufacturing bonuses.

Even so, the AI needs to build a factory before it builds anything else. I usually get max espionage and look at their planets and they are almost always building the terraforming tiles first.

I've had a 26 with the 700% manufacturing bonus

That game was over quite quick.

Wasn't there a guy that had a PQ72 planet a few months back?

I wish I could get lucky and get that random event though. I guess I need more to select more 'luck' in the abilities selection.

He did, look in the upper left corner.

Maybe the AI was concentrating on Research while these were being built, or military for that matter, or didn't have the cash to build. Doesn't mean its bad planetary development, just means you bought several structures instead of waiting. Have you ever looked at the build times for a factory? Sometimes it takes 25-35 weeks. Thats why players buy their first factory on many if not most or ALL of their planets, to jumpstart production.

What AI level were you playing, that would also show how (in)efficient the AI was in building.

Point is, this isn't obviously a real good example of poor AI without knowing more about it. An obvious example of poor AI would be a starport built on a 700% manufacturing tile.

Cheers,
Reaver

It's Primus IV. The Primus star system is always glitchy, or perhaps an Easter Egg. Either way, weird stuff like that happens around the Twilight Zone of stars. Typically it's just little oddities; for instance, I once saw a class 7 planet with Earth's graphics in a humanless game. Mark my words: If you see Primus, examine it's planets closely. It may just be a class 10 ice planet, but you're bound to see something odd around that star.

You are correct about the Primus systems in-game. I raced to a class 16 and saw it go to a 44 when I got my civ to neutral.

I'm with LoneWolf on the AI's bad planet management. I've seen a lot of planets through high espionage. On some the AI does a great job. On some other planets of the same race, there are no factories, even when they have the 300% manufacturing bonus tile (or tiles). It should be a basic thing for all planets: you have to build at least one factory before you build other stuff. That's what factories are for, after all: to get stuff built without it taking half a game year, or so.

As for terraforming before anything else: I think that qualifies as a bug, and certainly as an exploit.

someone post here a few months ago about 50 and more class planet and someone reply -
I saw a 76 class planet

and he showed an image so I'm not joking!

Terraforming before anything else is I think due to the fact the the default for each planet is to terraform tiles when terraforming tech is researched. If the AI (or human) does not provide or adjust the planet build it will terraform has a high priority. Not sure this classifies as a bug but more of a oversight in the AI
