IA using more CPU option

the function works now i believe.
but exactly how much more CPU is it taking.
and what exactly does the function do, what espects of the IA get better and how much better do they get.
some details on this function would be nice.

The AI gets to build more ships a year, and use more advanced strategies.

I'm not sure on the CPU though.

Does alt-tabbing out of the game cause the system to "hiccup"?

Not if you don't plan on opening up and using adobe photoshop cs2, nero 7, a video conversion program and running your disk defragmenter at the same time or be alt tabbed out for more than an hour you should be right.

Heh, if your game survived that, I envy your machine.

Running in fullscreen mode and then outtabbing sends video drivers beserk, and galciv2 handles it fairly well. If you need to alt-tab, then run windowed mode, and that makes alt-tabbing a lot faster. A LOT. Generally I try not to alt-tab, since it is a pain to reload a gigantic map after I cause the game to crash.

As that been documented as a fact or is it just speculation....? I understand that it has been suggested that future builds could take advantage of that feature but I must have missed the post where it states what you have written.

Then you haven't been reading the journals enough. It's a documented fact that the AI makes more ship designs a year with the option selected (without it, it makes one per 52 turns, with it it updates as needed). I'm not entirely sure about the strategies, so I'll ask.

EDIT: On monday, since the developers aren't actually here.

Hehe, I leave it unchecked, the AI kicks my butt as it is

A lot of AI learning techniques can be CPU intensive, but it's worth it if you want the Ai to be more humanlike and less algorithmic. I'm really impressed by the AI in this game, so if the AI devs want to use more of my CPU they can have it!

CraigHB, don't let the difficulty level put you off giving the AI more CPU. Turning the option on and turn the difficulty down and you'll probably get a better experience. I'd only recommend turning it off if you've got some heavy duty programs running with galciv, or if you're on laptop batteries.

When did the AI formerly do its ship designing? Jan 1 of each year?
How often will it make new designs with it selected and on what dates? Is the frequency fixed or variable?
