Install + Serial Number invalid

I bought this game yesterday from Futureshop, and am now on my 2nd copy (returned the first) that doesn't work.

they both have the same issue:

When I put CD #1 in the drive to install the game, it spins up the drive, and promptly locks up my computer. only way out is to eject the disc. the first attempt revealed that the system could not open the setup.exe file on the CD.

after coming here, I saw that people were getting told to get the downloading software, and do it that way. So I got the software, registered here, and went to register GalCiv2 inside the program (since it said that I could use my CD key there as well). It told me that the Serial Number was invalid. I tried every possible combination of how it may need to be entered, but nothing worked. The 2nd copy of the game has the exact same problems with both the CD and the Serial Number.

Can anyone help?

If the only serial code you got begins with GC2- and there is no other one anwhere in the packaging or even on the discs themselves, you should be able to get a usable serial at https://www.galciv2.com/paradox (It says Eurpoe but it's been updated with production runs from the US and other areas where the wrong serials were put in the boxes by the manufacturer). Alternatively if you have only a GC2- serial and that page doesn't work for you, or if you do have a serial that does not begin with GC2 but it won't work, contact support@stardock.com.

As for the locking up problem I had that too with my computer and I found that if you copy the cd's onto the hard-drive and run setup.exe it runs (although it still takes a long time to load compared to most setup programs I have run).

Heh. I'm glad I bought the 'digital distribution' version. I haven't had issues whatsoever with it.

hey, the download went well

I'll find out tonite if the game works though (I apparently went straight to the latest beta patch, is it good for use?)

as per the Serial Number: yeah, that worked well. Maybe they should adjust the text on that page to reflect the other areas that are getting the wrong serial numbers.

as for the Image... I could, but the imaging program I have has never actually worked for me, though it works for others... doing the download works I guess, I'll still have the CD's for backup.

The beta should work, just don't post any games on the Metaverse or they may be flagged as cheating.
