Wounded in Action, I believe, is 'earned' when you lose battles - I am not sure how many.

Gandron - medals are badges you get in your signature when you fulfill certain requirements. You can get medals for various things: being in the highest-rated empire, posting 5 games to the Metaverse, having an ethical alignment of 'Evil' in a majority of your games, etc. Perhaps another member can post a link to the medal page; you can move the mouse over any medals you see (I should have a few in my signature) to see what they are.
