Build or Buy - build is 'NEVER'??

I'm not very good at developing planets. I should be building something on each planet all the time, right? But on most of my planets when I try to build something it has 'Never' as a build time, so I end up running through turns to save up the money to buy stuff.

Isn't it cheaper to build things? Is there something I can do to get my planets able to build up? The first thing I do on each planet is buy 1 factory. Should I have more?

2 is generally required on anything +7. If build time is never, then you're in debt. If you aren't, then build time will appear next turn.

Or you might have the social slider at zero. That means you aren't passively putting any money from your budget towards buildings.

It also may just be a slight glitch. If you're not in debt, and you have a positive social slider reading, yet the time still says "never," it's a glitch. The easiest way to fix it quickly is to cycle the "focus on social production" button. Click on it, and the time should change to read how long it would take to build if production is focused on social buildings. If you click it again to turn off the focus, the correct amount of time it would take to construct the building normally should now be there.

I think that when you are not using social production, and it's being shifted to military production, the game reads your social production on that planet as zero, because all improvements that you select (but do not double-click to build) will say never.

Thanks, I'll try that tonight. I had over a dozen planets and was not in debt, so I couldn't figure out why I kept having to buy everything.

I get the "never" time limit occasionally, but that's usually when I've got nothing else in the build quie, and the focus is on research or military. If you switch the focus to social, or just wait a turn, the correct amount of turns will appear. Don't know if its a glitch or a part of the design. It caught me off guard once, and since then I just ignore it. If it pops up as "never" the following turn, then you may have problem.

Yeah, it's a glitch I've experienced many times. Two other ways to correct the "Never-Bug" is to leave your planet after you've made your selection, and then go right back in. You'll now see the correct build time. Also, as already mentioned, you can simply ignore it, and build whatever you choose. After you hit the turn button, the correct build time will now be reflected. Still, I find it easiest to just cycle the social focus button, which resets it right away without having to leave the planet.

Another way is to add another item to the build queue, that will show the correct time for both buildings.

Correct. After adding to your social build queue, click to focus on social spending and then click it again to not focus. I also think exiting this window and returning will reset it too.

If your planet has no factories then the only build capacity you have is from your initial colony which is not very high. It may be that your other planets are using up all your social spending alotment. Focus this planet on social production and/or increase your global social spending.

On occasion, I get it on a ship. I just buy the ship outright and the next one usually builds.
