This site is so slow

This site is so slow

What on earth is making this website so slow.

It is painful to search the site. I just ran a test on my download speed and its running at 2456 kbps ... why is it taking at least a min. for a page to download? Half the time I have to refresh to even get the page to load.

To top it off this SD Central page is cut into 4 frames.

Who the heck designed this site? And were they hung at sunrise? If not they should have been.

I purchased OD a couple of weeks ago and have not visited either stardock or wincustomize without having this slower than a snail service.

Both companies can drop to their knees and thank the great artists who donate their time and effort to these sites or I would have already asked for a refund.

Hello Zoomba,

Welcome to Stardock staff ... looks like you will be a very positive addition here.
I hope your cat had a safe trip too ... without to much stress

Thank you for taking a moment to give me the scoop on what is being done behind the scenes.
Understandable and acceptable

I will try Foxfire as you suggest.
It is not my default browser but I do have it plus 2 others installed on this system.

I'm sorry your first brush with the community here has been so negative, I only hope you choose to stick it out and give it all a second chance. Sometimes, an overly-critical/angry post will get everyone feeling a bit defensive.

Your concern is truly appreciated ... thank you. However it was not a negative experience for me ... in fact it has been a lot of fun.
I did not miss the defensive "chest beating ... me tarzan ... you intruder" attitude that surfaced right away.

I must plead the devil made me do it defense because I could not resist the temptation of playing with these guys ... "chest beaters" always seem to be easy prey. They all have a typical pattern of behavior ... maybe because pounding ones chest takes so much energy it switches off the thinking part of the brain. I have always been entertained by watching that particular phenomenon.

But drat I only ended up being a trolling malcontent who can't count, design a website and posts phony screenshots ... what the heck happened to "flaming bitch"? I am sure they thought it ... lol ... and they would be right.

Not to worry I will not be discourage by a couple of guys who can not maintain their cool ... its my fault ... they were being worked so I expected them to come unglued ... they WERE NOT a disappointment

I did see someone say have fun ... so I did/am.

Thanks to a couple of you my complaints have been addressed and pretty much solved.
Tomorrow I will check out foxfire and see if it helps the page load time.
I do not know why I thought it was necessary to visit WC thru SD Central ... maybe because I had no clue there was such a site until I accessed SD Central and found a link there. Thanks to Koasati for pointing me to logging directly on to WC. DigitalDanes may have mentioned it too ... once there I pulled the doc and there are no frames on WC only tables. I have tried to duplicate the extra frame in the main window of the SD Central software and can not so either I imagined it or it was a one time glitch.
In any case I must apologize for the Sucky Stardock/WC design comments because when I access either site without going thru SD Central both sites are superbly designed.
So NICE GOING staff!
I am sorry for the rude comments about your work.

You guys that I jacked around? I am not sorry ... you are big boys and you deserved that and more ... lol

Have a great week everyone

I'm not sure that I'd want this thread to be my first impression . . but to each their own.

What? I find that a little hard to believe.
If in fact that is true ... you might want to consider if you are not sure about you then there is certainly nothing else in the world you can be sure of but dropping dead at some point.

Don't you think first impressions should be truthful impressions?

Do you live a covert life ... smiling to someone's face while holding a knife behind your back ready to strike?

Somewhere in one of your posts I picked up the impression that you seem to think if I were face to face with this group (in a pub was it)? That I might behave differently. You are dead wrong.

I do not have to impress people ... I am sorry that apparently you find that a necessary part of your existence.

I am what I am ... and that am is not defined by someone else ... EVER.

By now you are probably wondering why someone has not smacked me (in that pub)?
Probably because I seldom (if ever) throw the first blow and like you suggest (most people) would not say to your face what they would say on a forum or behind your back.

So the good behavior we see on a forum might be a true impression.
The bad behavior always is.

Let me define what I see going on here.
You have people who claim they are supporting the betterment of this site.
99% of the people here are actually supporting the betterment of the site.
They are the quiet ones you talk about. I did not see any of them leaping into the middle of this fray (maybe Phoon for a moment ... I do not count him).
What is the objective of Stardock and WC? ... to attract new clients and members.

It is my understanding new team members are onboard to do exactly that.

Do you see the behavior of these guys who all leaped on the "take a hike" bandwagon as counter productive to that goal?
It certainly stopped me from whipping the extra $20 out of my wallet which I would have paid in a heartbeat.

Why did it stop me?
Not because there are a few people who are goaded into further exposing their jerkdom.
But because contributing to something that is being sabotaged from the inside by people who claim to be support the system simply is not my cup of tea.

Do you care about any of this?
If you are truly interested in this group you should be.
Sure it has a free feature so far but the goal is to gather paying members.
Do you care what % are free and what % are paid?
If not you should ... because at some point SOMEBODY will not be able to support the overload ... and if/should that happen YOU ALL lose your home away from home.

If you are truly comitted to WC you might want to consider some of the perceptions I have presented.
It's your community.
I am so far only a visitor here.

Does anyone else find it somewhat strange that a person who supposedly has 40+ websites can't figure out how to enter a url into FireFox or Internet Explorer, even when the url is clearly listed at the top of SDCentral's web browser?

There can be a difference in being an obnoxious twit and being truthful; there can also be a middle ground. You have choosen to be both.

I am sure then that I would not want my first impression in a community I have interest in to be such a twit. I would curb my natural inclination to see if twits are welcome. I would go or stay based on the response.

I care very little for the site itself except that it has brought me this community. The skins could be hosted anywhere (and would be if WC stopped providing the service it would). It'd be a bummer but these things happen in any community. Sometime some folks stay in contact . . sometimes not. I care more about the people.

What is the objective of Stardock and WC? ... to attract new clients and members.

That may be Stardock's goal. Not mine. I have been highly critical of this site, the company, and it's products. But I have always tried to be polite and constructive. My goal is to hang out with my friends, helps new folks out if I can. I hope that they become members because it supports the community. I dig that.

I do not have to impress people ... I am sorry that apparently you find that a necessary part of your existence.

Being polite and impressing people are two different things. I'm cool with being polite.

No one beat their chest or joined a bandwagon. I think you have other issues hat you are projecting on strangers here.

I am so far only a visitor here.

Stick around or leave or whatever. I think you're an obnoxious twit. Honest and forthright. Happy?

Not when you consider those 40+ can probably be found under "Favorites" - "Organize Favorites...".

I've noticed the site being extremely slow to load pages the past few days as well.  Seems to be the stuff from sitemeter & e0 that is taking so long so might not be SD's problem directly.  Nonetheless, the page is frozen until that stuff finishes.  Even after the status bar says Done, may take another 10-15 seconds before the page unfreezes.  Current FF here, viewing under IETab plugin.

How is it not using IETab?  I've found almost everything loads slow with IETab.

kwkid ... what I find strange.

1)Is that there are a few of you here that either can't comprehend what you read or worse yet can't read period.
2)What do you not understand about I don't use the stardock browser?
3)Further what do you see in the screenshot that would confirm that I am using it.
4)Please be my guest and nab the screenshot, drag it into photoshop or whatever software you might be capable of running ... circle and repost so I can see any address you might find. I spent at LEAST 5 days suffering trying to find any link address anywhere in that software.
5)What do you offer this group in the way of support other than hot air?
6)In reality I own 46 domains, they are housed on an excellent server, I have my own nameserver and maintain total control of it all (one of those sites averages 40,000 unique visitors a month on a bad month ... with not a stick of advertisement)... now what about that don't you understand, what does any of it matter and why does it apparently bug the hell out of you?
Jealousy perhaps?
7) Why do you assume I am a liar? Because that is your mode of operation? The answer to that is probably yes ... simply put those who distrust the world are usually not very trustworthy themselves.

Capish?
