Explosion graphic happens on wrong planet

Observed in my last game, that when you exit a battle scene before it is over when attacking a not fleet ship in orbit, the explosion on the planet occurs on a planet 1 or 2 sectors away from the planet you are attacking. Wierd!

Did this happen everytime or just one specific time?
Is it repeatable? If so, how can it be repeated?
