PowerUser.TV: The stuff that gets edited out

Be happy.. Be very happy

http://www.poweruser.tv

Each week I participate on a podcast called PowerUser.TV.  There's a lot of banter and for most listeners, I think the banter is the draw. But some people don't like all the banter and joking around and wish we'd "edit it".

In fact, we do edit it a lot. A LOT.  Yesterday we recorded the show that will show up on Monday (you can listen to the shows at PowerUser.TV).  Below are two examples (of many) of what got edited out (transcript):

Kristin: So Derek, were you there when your son was born?

Derek: Yep. It was a real miracle of life type of thing.

Kristin: Yea. How about you Brad, were you there when your sons were born? You cut the umbelical coord and that?

Brad: Oh definitely. I mean, I might as well have, I already had the scapel in my hand from doing the appeasiotomy.

Kristin: Oh my god. Oh god. You did what?

Brad: Well yea, I needed lots of room to get in there to pull him out. Though I did have problems, I used to wear this big metal watch..

Kristin: Oh god!

(cut)

(edited out piece #2)

Kristin: So yea, Brad and I were walking near the building, you know talking about "marketing stuff" or whatever and Brad sees a snake and picks it up.

Brad: Yea, it was just a little gartner snake.

Kristin: Yea, and the thing is trying to bite him and Brad's taunting it because it has no teeth.

Brad: Yea, though it did pee all over me.

Kristin: Yea, that stuff smelled pretty bad.

Brad: Yea, but on the bright side you got that golden shower.

Kristin: Oh god, you're sick.

Brad: Hey, you shouldn't have touched my snake.

Kristin: You die now. (muffled sounds of beatings)

Kristin: I'd like to introduce our new panelist, Jose who will be taking the place of Brad.

Jose: Buenos Dias.

..

Each week, we record about 70 to 90 minutes of stuff of which 20 minutes gets taken out. Usually stuff that was too offensive or silly or just crazy to keep in there. ;)

Thanks for the glimpse Brad.  I find the banter to be priceless.  It really is what keeps me coming back time and again.  I have always wondered just how crazy the stuff we never hear is.

Thank you Kristin for cutting the child birth stuff.  Thanks also to anyone who helps with his beatings

Whenever they're recording a podcast, you can walk past the room that they are in and most often you will hear roars of laughter. And the occasional sounds of chairs banging against walls, which I suppose is what happens if they have to chase Brad around the room to deliver his beating.

The unedited stuff can definitely be very funny and/or interesting. Unfortunately it may need to be seen in a bigger context and over a longer period of time to really know what it is all about, so perhaps it makes more sense to have it edited out to keep inside jokes and other references out and keep away total confusion.

All the edited stuff....looks/sounds interesting....maybe you could package these exerpts on to DVD's and flog 'em off to the more dedicated/harcore viewer.

I can see it now... a special podcast/compilation of edited material sometime in the future:

The show is great, especially the banter. I can get a dry techcast anywhere; yours stands our as informative and entertaining. What I really enjoy is the inside look into your business and the dynamics that the 3 of you share. (Joel is one of us, I fear, looking in on the chaos!) I'd like to hear more of Paul Boyer and his talents too. Or is he really Brad in disguise: we've never heard them in the same room together...!
